Burned up my 5 year old Makita portable table a week ago. After a few hours of research on the net I decided to give the Bosch a try. (I make lodgepole furniture as well as a complete remodel of my 33 room motel. A lot of heavy ripping and endless trim work.) After it showed up, an employee and I set it up with no problems. There was definately some thought that went into the production of this saw. The fence holds tight, the blade adjutment takes but a second to raise and lower, the built in extension operates smooth and is sturdy. It also has one of the smoothest operating blade guards I have used. The large heavy deck is easy to work off of and supports material well. The stand that came with it is a great extra also. I did a few projects with it today and boy am I pleased. Nice powerful motor but not with the Makita whine or the or the Dewalt kick. The bosch processed my boards as nice as could be. Never showed signs of a load. I definately am glad I spent the few extra dollars for the saw over the Makita or the Dewalt, and the work bench was included!! I own a few Bosch power tools and always liked the smoother operation compared to the comparable brands. As for the table saw in the portable class, I wouldn't recomend anything but the Bosch. It feels and operates like a shop table saw.

I own several bosch tools and have always been satisfied with the quality and workmanship of these products. This has changed since owning a bosch 4000 table saw. Right out of the box, I put it to work, from ripping hardwoods to large dado's and I must admit, I was very impressed with the strong motor and soft start. After a few months i started to have problems with raising and lowering the blade. Flipping the saw over to clean the gears, i noticed these were made out of plastic and the plate which holds these spindles are also plastic.I was always cleaning and oiling these gears to get them to operate. This plastic plate got fatigued and finally sheared off, right after the one year warranty expired. The raising and lowering gears are the heart and soul of any table saw. To make these pieces out of plastic and not replaceable(plate is part of entire body) is an engineering tragidy. Now my saw no longer functions and bosch won't fix my problem. Now im looking at Delta and buying American!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosch 4000-07 Best In Class, September 5, 2004

This review is from: Bosch 4000-07 15 amp 10-inch Worksite Table Saw with Folding Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I did a lot of research before I purchased the Bosch 4000-07 (includes outfeed support and stand). By default, I was convinced that I would purchase the DeWalt for the same price. I also looked a lower-priced Sears portable table saw where I saw the DeWalt and had time to examine both. DeWalt did not have the outfeed table. I wanted to examine the Bosch in person, before spending that kind of money. In the end, I bought the Bosch based on the online reviews and pictures.

I replaced a Ryobi BT 3000 Precision Woodcutting System with sliding. I had the Ryobi for ten years and could hardly wait until it wore out, so I could replace it. To say the least, the Ryobi label of "Precision Woodcutting" was a misnomer. It has been a constant hassle to keep the saw aligned. I have had to overhaul the saw, replacing drive belts and repeatedly re-alighning all aspects of the saw. The sliding table stuck out too far and consequently, the saw took up too much room in my small shop. It required constant adjustment. I wanted a smaller saw with more precision, with a good table top and traditional miter slots. I am getting more precise in my woodworking.

Setup time with the Bosch was quick. Addition of the outfeed table and left side support were quick and simple. The engineering is superb. I did take the time to check all alignments with a dial protractor. It was dead on in every test--miter gauge presets, rip fence and the gauge for bevel cuts. I had hoped for the Bosch reputation for quality to shine through and it did. It is truly accurate, unlike my previous two saws (the Ryobi and a Sears traditional aluminum).

I decided that I would take a vow of safety with the new saw, leaving the anti-kickback device and blade guard for every cut possible. I have not been hindered in the least by its use. In fact, I am more at ease using the saw. Bosch can't take all the credit for this, but I didn't experience any of the difficulties other reviewers had with the safety mechanisms.

The blade housing and arbor placement design is very similar to the older Ryobi. I've learned to adapt to it over the years and take my time with blade replacement and dado blades.

Finally, in the Bosch, I have a compact, accurate traditional-style well-engineered table saw. I just didn't have the room for a large cabinet saw. I appreciate the lighter weight Bosch. I can slide it in to position easily. The saw will probably not leave my small shop. Cutting plywood is a breeze with the outfeed table, left side support and the 25" rip fence capacity.

I would not recommend cutting large sheets of plywood on this saw. I rough cut plywood (oversize) with a jigsaw first, and then get precision with the Bosch by shaving off a 1/4' or so. I never did find a local dealer so I could see the saw before purchase. I bought here at Amazon for $475(no shipping or handling).

Nothing is left unconsidered in the engineering and design of this saw. All parts, miter gauge, blade arbor wrench, rip fence are stowable on the saw's plastic body, even the (supplied) allen wrench has its own designated holder.

I waxed the table top with Johnson's paste wax. I have repeatedly rubbed scrap pieces of maple and basswood on the oxidized aluminum surface to see if it produced any marks on the wood. None.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precise, workhorse of a table saw, October 15, 2001

This review is from: Bosch 4000-07 15 amp 10-inch Worksite Table Saw with Folding Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Bosch 4000K Table Saw is incredibly engineered to provide for precise saw operation with great portable power. I am a very serious do-it-yourselfer (translated, contractors have rejected bids on some projects I ended up doing solo). I replaced an under powered and grossly inaccurate Delta table saw with the Bosch and am nothing but pleased. It has enough power to rip a 2x4x10 all the way without bogging down. Most of all, the rip fence is perfectly aligned. The built in dust collector port and blade, rip fence, and miter saw storage are a real plus too. The stand is very stable. When equipped with the outfeed and side tables, the Bosch 4000K can handle just about any cutting job you throw to it. And best of all, it is very light weight and built to be moved. Overall, an outstanding product.

PS -- I am a DeWalt lover at heart, but their saw simply won't run with the Bosch. It is of lesser power and prone to accuracy issues. Check it out and you can see the same problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Things I wish I knew before I bought it--Like it anyway, February 16, 2003

This review is from: Bosch 4000-07 15 amp 10-inch Worksite Table Saw with Folding Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
Love the saw, but if I could do it again I would wait until the 2nd generation model where they hopefully fix these things:

1. arbor shaft too short for dado cutters--I still use mine but I can't use the balancer that functions as a large washer. Using the nut on the arbor alone makes me nervous, but so far I've been using it anyway because I have to cut 5/8 dados. I don't know how safe this is.

2. blade changes--easy because of the locking/one wrench feature, but as others have mentioned, bosch didn't leave enough room between the dust collection guard and the blade. Others reviewers have noted their fixes--mine was to remove two of the dust shield bolts and to bend the dust collecter aside when changing blades. Makes me feel mickey-mouse.

3. miter catches on the front of the table. I will probably just build my own sled for panel cutting and use it for crosscutting when I would have used the miter. This "fix" won't help when I have to use angles, though.

Overall, still happy with the saw, but for this price range, I wish I'd taken a closer look at the competition. I must admit I was persuaded by many reviews on this site to just buy the bosch. I should have done more research, because although this is a really good saw, especially for the money, it is not an entirely finished product. I'm sure they will fix the 3 defects above in their next model.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid Performing Saw, but..., December 10, 2001

This review is from: Bosch 4000-07 15 amp 10-inch Worksite Table Saw with Folding Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have owned the Bosch 4000 for about a month now. Like the soft-start motor technology, accuracy of rip fence, changing blades using one wrench and ease of table adjustment. Plenty of power for all of my work.

One deficiency I have discovered is that the plastic shroud that is installed on the blade/arbor housing underneath the table does not allow for installation of 7" adjustable dado head or my 10" sanding disk. Very disappointing. I contacted Bosch support and they suggested just returning the saw to my retailer (wrong answer)! If the plastic shroud was cut down an inch or two, the installation of these blades could probably be achieved. I investigated the competitive Dewalt saw and they overcome the issue with the cut down shroud. Recently spoke directly with the Bosch product manager for the product and he confirmed my experience. Will have to use a stacked dado blade set and find another solution for the sanding disk. I expected Bosch to have a better response/solution.

Despite this design shortcoming, I am still pretty pleased with the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Choice, June 24, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch 4000-07 15 amp 10-inch Worksite Table Saw with Folding Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
In the last ten or twelve years I have owned a few Makita 8" table saws. They were portable enough but not always functional enough. As a trim contractor in a resort area we are called on to do custom features in many upscale homes. We are called on to build furniture and entertainment centers in most, and that's where the Bosch steps out. Ripping cabinet grade plywoods (3/4 birch, cherry, oak etc.) was never so easy. The base was incredibly sturdy and the outfeed and side extention made handling the large and awkward sheets surprisingly easy. It's a lot more pleasing on the ears and a fraction the vibration. Of the three saws (Makita, Dewalt, Bosch) portable and strong enough for my daily uses I felt Bosch was the best choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great working quality for a portable, September 27, 2003

I'm impressed by the Bosch 4000. After years of using a Powermatic 66 with a big fence and an outfeed table, I think this saw actually offers comparable performance in cut quality if not overall mass. Ease-of-use is excellent. As someone who has spent DAYS setting up and tweaking shop saws, it was a pleasure to find this little Bosch was dead-on, right out of the box. I had even set aside a morning to dial it in, but found no adjustment was necessary.

The 4000 is refreshingly light, but sits very substantially on its folding stand. I have neither the space nor the need for a cast iron cabinet saw anymore, and this Bosch will be fine for my purposes. (I cut panels using the Festool system, so the 4000's being small and lightweight isn't really an issue when cutting up plywood or MDF.)

Important note: I upgraded my Bosch 4000 with a Forrest Woodworker II blade and a 5" damper/balancer. That's an extra $120, but it's how you get optimal performance. Can't speak for the manufacturer-supplied blade, because it's as yet unused and riding in the very cool spare blace/arbor wrench carrier on the base of the saw.

For a portable jobsite saw, the Bosch 4000 performs admirably. I have no complaints, and feel I received a good value for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb tool, June 24, 2002

My first table saw was one I borrowed from a neighbor. I quickly learned the limitations of a cheap table saw. The fence wasn't true, and it was difficult to control its position. I don't recommend trying to spend less than $400-$500 on a table saw. You are just buying yourself frustration.

I bought this saw two years ago, and I have been very happy with it. The fence is very stable and adjusts easily. The saw was perfectly aligned right out of the box. I have been amazed by the quality of the cuts I can make with a saw in this price class. I recommend the outfeed and side extensions; they are very useful on a saw this size. You can probably buy a better saw, but not at this price.

I have only one problem with the saw, but it relates to the advertising. I don't believe the Bosch claim that this saw delivers 4HP. A 110 V 15 Amp household circuit only delivers about 2.2HP to the tool. There is a very good reason most 4-5HP tools run on 220 V 30 Amp circuits; you need it to get the power to the tool. It is a shame that Bosch feels the need to make an outrageous claim like this to sell their table saw; the saw is a superb piece of engineering on its own merits

5.0 out of 5 stars MOAB ("Mother of all Benchtops"), April 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch 4000-07 15 amp 10-inch Worksite Table Saw with Folding Stand (Tools & Home Improvement)
I rate this MOAB a 5 star. To make a long story short, I bought and tested every imaginable benchtop table saw out there. I had no problem returning them back to the store since most home centers would happily give you your money back if you are not satisfied. After months of playing and testing every benchtop (Makita, Dewalt, Porter-Cable, Rigid, Skill, I ended up testing the Bosch saw. I was never a fan of Bosch tools (appliances yes but not the tools). So at the last resort I purchased it from Amazon and decided to give it a test drive. This is one bad MOAB. Done to the core, this is one strong, well built, smooth, powerful, and precision peice of machinery. The construction of Bosch fence is best I ever seen. You can take it out and whack somebody in the head and it will still be straight. I am a Makita fan at heart, but the Makita tablesaw is outdated and looks and works like a Skill saw in blue. The Dewalt tablesaw is okay, but looks like a big flat frying pan with its teflon coated top. The 13 amp motor on the Dewalt is alright, but doesn't satisfied my appetite for raw power. Furthermore, the Dewalt tablesaw is better suited for a woman who would enjoy the nice little fancy knob for adjusting the fence. I don't have time for that stuff.

The Porter Cable was a distant second runner-up. I liked the electric brake feature and the little wheel at the end of the miter gauge (to keep it from coming off when in use). While those features are nice, I have no use for a miter gauge on a table saw. Real men use a sliding compound miter saw. As far as the electric brake, the soft-start feature on the Bosch is more important and valuable to me than the electric brake on the Porter Cable. It is important to have smooth cuts regardless of the type of wood you feed it. In addition, the PC's table top is shorter than the Bosch.

So far this MOAB is for keeps. I am sure Amazon would be delighted to hear this.

Regards,
D-
