Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Cut water-heating costs by up to 50 percent with the Bosch AquaStar 125B-LP tankless water heater. The 125B-LP is fueled by liquid propane and heats water on demand, supplying hot water at a rate of 4.3 gallons per minute--enough to meet the needs of one major application (shower, dishwasher, etc.) at a time. The 125B-LP uses a standing pilot for ignition. Stainless steel burners and a copper heat exchanger help ensure long life, and a modulating gas valve provides temperature control. A boon for basement-finishing plans, the 125B-LP takes up much less space than a tank heater and can be mounted in a closet or on a wall on included hooks. The unit is designed to vent vertically, but the optional AQ1 kit allows you to vent it horizontally through a wall. The purchase is covered by a manufacturer’s 12-year limited warranty on the heat exchanger and a two-year limited warranty on parts. Check with your fuel provider for energy rebates on this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Requires Annual Maintenance, January 29, 2005
This review is from: Bosch AquaStar Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater #125B-LP (Tools & Home Improvement)
I expect my appliances to be low maintenance. Aquastar 125B was installed 2-1/2 years ago in new construction, provides plenty of hot water for 2 low-flow showers simultaneously. Read manual when I moved into house, failed to perform annual maintenace of unit.

If you buy this product order water valve rebuild kit, you will need it.

In addition to annual maintenance the water control valve must be rebuilt every 2-5 years or a dangerous overheat condition arises. Mine currently requires rebuild. $15 in parts $30 shipping FedEx. The two set screws that connect the water control valve to the gas control valve are deterioted and frozen. The instructions say that if this condition exists, stop and call tech support as the gas control valve may be damaged. Repeated calls to tech support, more than 10, have resulted in no answer. Left messages that have not been returned. Emailed Controlled energy to get necessary parts. So far, eight days and no hot water; wife not very happy; I'm suffering.

4.0 out of 5 stars pilot light, January 28, 2010
This review is from: Bosch AquaStar Liquid Propane Tankless Water Heater #125B-LP (Tools & Home Improvement)
We have had one of these for almost six years now. About 6 months ago the pilot light started going out ever once in a while. No explanation as to why, wind, no wind could not figure out what the problem was. Local plumbers play dumb when you tell them you have one of these, guess they want to sell the traditional hot water tanks. A few weeks ago the pilot light was out and I could not get the thing to stay on no matter how long I held the button in to warm the thermo coupler as per the instructions. Bosh had not answered any questions via e-mail and near impossible to contact via telephone. So in need of a hot shower I took off the cover and noticed a little screen about the size of the end of ones little finger and this screen had ever so little lint on it. So I took and old toothbrush and brushed off this tiny bit of lint and just for the heck of it I pushed in the button to light the pilot light and pushed the little red button to put out a spark and low and behold the thing lit and I immediately let go of the button and it stayed on. It has stayed on ever since and we have not had to re-light the thing a single time. You would think Bosh could have answered this question. My neighbor works for a natural gas company and said that these days things are so geared toward safety that any little thing can cause a problem and also said that ever so little blockage can keep a pilot light from staying on.

Hope this might help someone else.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Good, Bad. Don't waiste your money!!, January 8, 2010

This heater was trouble free for a few months. Then, all sorts of trouble. I would be careful with these "on demand water heaters." Electric may be better, I don't know. Although they, gas heaters, have been around in Europe for more than 30 years, models are less reliable in the U.S..
