The previous generation of this tool did not have the ability to retain the spring angle for crown, so using the cut calculation functions required re-entering it every time you turned the tool on. This version of the tool corrects that.

This is a multi-purpose tool. Besides complex cut calculation for crown, it functions as a simple (or single) cut measuring device, a digital protractor, and as a spirit level, so for all but circumstances where you really have to have a long level, this folding tool replaces several tools.

For the naysayers who say that you can't really use the crown cut calculations, consider this: First, you will have to manually calculate the miter and bevel angles anyway if you're cutting flat. Why not have a tool do it for you? Even if you're sneaking up on the fit, it will save you time in finding the starting angles. And, of course, not all crown can be cut at its spring angle against the fence, nor do all saws have the clearance. The second common complaint is that you can't set fractional angles with much accuracy on a chop saw anyway, so why bother. That rationale went out the window with digital angle setters, which will let you set bevel and miter to 1/10th of a degree and which can be had for less than $50.

I consider myself a serious DIYer, just for reference. I'm sure you read the specs, so no need to re-hash any of that.
If you cut crown molding "upside down and backwards", this tool will give you an accurate corner angle measurement and the miter saw setting with one button push.
If you cut crown molding "laying flat" the measurement/calculation capability of the miter finder allows for the accurate miter/bevel setup regardless of the crown molding's actual spring angle and non-square corners. You are no longer limited to the standard detents on your miter saw when cutting on the flat.
This tool will allow you to do more interesting tasks like crown molding on a cathedral ceiling. With all of the non-standard changes in direction involved with cathedral ceilings the measurement/calculation of the Bosch miter finder makes the job much easier. No need to measure the angle and use a laptop for miter/bevel calculations. No need for paper miter/bevel tables.
Higher priced than the old product, but includes the leg extension and a great case. Also stores your spring angle. If you're cutting complex miters for crown molding or need a very accurate angle measurement tool, this tool will save you time/money. Quality and accuracy are second to none. The fit and finish of this tool are amazing.
It only stands to reason that you will obtain a better miter joint if you have better angle measurements and the correct miter/bevel setup for your saw.

I bought this item for my brother for a Christmas gift. He is a building contractor who happens to be building my house at this time and he absolutely loves it. He constantly uses it for measuring the angles of the cuts that he has to make. We have alot of trim and crown molding in the house so it has really come in handy. I know that he would highly recommend it to anyone.

I have never done carpentry work in my life and took the challenge to cut and install rather complex seven and a half inch crown moulding in our foyer. Because of the size of the crown moulding it had to be cut flat. We have a large foyer with several inside and outside corners which was an anticipated hurdle besides everything else. I did some internet research and came across this device and ordered through amazon. I am glad I did as I really don't know any more convienient and accurate way out there to have the measurements of wall corners (both inside and outside), measurment of crown moulding spring angle with simultaneous read out of the bevel and miter angles at a push of a button. This past weekend, I had cut and dry fitted more than 200 feet of crown without screwing up a single cut. My wife is already complementing how talented I am??? and I cannot wait to show my accomplishment to my friends once the crown get installed in a couple of weeks. Obviously, I could not have done it more easily and successfully without this instrument. Thank you Bosch for making this great product and thank you amazon for an excellent delievery and price, as usual.

P.S. The only con worth mentioning is that if your wall corner is shorter than the size of this device which means less than 16 or 18 inches then this device will not fit to measure the corner accurately. I have larger corners in my foyer so I didn't run into this problem but this is something to keep in my mind. Bosch DAF220K Miter finder Digital Angle Finder with Leg Extension and Case

This is the answer to determining correct miter settings and spring angles for cutting wide crown flat on a compound miter saw! We struggled with poor and expensive miter fittings until we found this angle finder. Large crown moldings can not be held vertically in a typical miter saw. You must have this angle finder to determine the proper spring angle as many poly and mdf crowns are not the usual 38 or 45 spring. We found spring angles of 50 and 60 too. The manufacturer of the moldings could not provide us the spring angles of the crown they sold!! The size of the angle finder provides correct angle measurements in your rooms. We failed when using a cheap angle finder. This is worth every penny and more as you will not have waste and frustration. We highly recommend you buy this if you are a do it yourself or professional installer. Email me if you need further tips.

The only thing that could have made it better, would have been for Bosch to include a DIGITAL, rather than just a Bubble, Level. Doing so would enable you to make angle measurements off plumb and level positions in addition to simple angle & miter functions.

The Bosch DAF2220K Miter Finder is an excellent tool for the serious woodworker that is serious about perfection.Everything about this tool is perfect and even a child can used it.Bosch you are simply the best.I will not trade this tool for anything.

A bit of an investment, but if you have the use for it doing crown molding, stairs, railings, etc it's a very useful item.

Wow!!!! This is one first class cool tool and dead-on accurate. A little spendy but you certainly do get what you pay for with this precision angle measuring instrument. Might as well get the very best the first time and save money you would have spent on lesser products that don't do everything this tool does. You really should treat youself to one of these Bosch Digital Angle Finders no matter how little or how much you would use one. Besides liking everything else I like the way there is just enough resistance in the arms that they don't move after you have taken the angle reading so you can transfer exactly to your work material if you want or dial in your saw for the cut. With the old eyes not being what they use to be it is so much easier to see the precision read-out numbers displayed than some little markings on a dial like the Starrett angle finder. Saves a lot of mistakes ( $$$ ) as I have made more than my share before using the DAF220K and if you do what it tells you its going to be right the first time. I can't find one fault with this purchase.

I had to install some crown and chair rail molding and this device was very useful in measuring the angles between the walls. The nice feature about this instrument is that the angles for the miters and crown are built right in the device. I highly recommend it to anyone.
