I bought the 4100 saw without the digital readout and wanted to add this feature, so when it became available, I purchased it. It is a very well constructed piece of equipment as most Bosch stuff is. The assembly was simple and the instructions were clear and it was easy to attach to the saw. The readout is large enough to see easily and bright enough for work outside. Easy to zero and then set your rip dimension. It works really well and allows a reading for a wide rip with the sliding table feature on the 4100 and gives very accurate readings (I trust it more than my ruler now!)
The only irritation I have is the auto shutoff seems to be too fast if you are making multiple settings. You just have to hit the on/off button and it goes back to the set reading, but a little aggravating. I need to measure the time and see what it is.
All-in-all a very good investment and first quality!

This is the EXACT same unit that comes with the 4100DG-09 table saw for $100 more. It works flawlessly and the installation takes about 10-minutes.

The directions for installation are pretty clear, but could be improved. Nonetheless, it was a painless install and I saved $100 by ordering the base 4100-09 and the DG separately.

The unit is deadly accurate and can be set to increments as low as 1/32.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a MUST purchase for Bosch 4000 and 4100 owners!

I have the table extension, and my rear table extension bashes into this when it is docked on the left side of the table. Also, when the sleep mode is activiated, it does not return automatically when this is moved. Which causes you to have to re-zero the unit every time you do this. And if you start to adjust your fence after a cut and forget to wake this up, you got to got back to square one. I thougt I would use this all the time, but since my fence has a magnifer over the tape, it is quicker for me to just relay on that.

I think that this digital readout is real nice and was very easy to install.
The reason I can only give it three stars is that after I blow off the table saw with some compressed air there is a 50% chance that the digital readout will no longer know where it is relative to the blade. This is not too bad but you do have to remove the blade guards and re-zero the digital readout then put the guards back. The most trouble I've had is when the readout was just slightly off, I make the cut not detecting the error, most of the time when it loses reference it is so far out its obvious. I think this may be happening because of the low relative humidity where I live, lately it has been it the 10% range, I'm thinking that it might be an abundance of static electricity that eventually causes the microprocessor to scramble, just a thought. I have to say when this thing is working correctly it is very nice and accurate.

When I ordered this attachment, I was wondering what ever got into me. But after I installed it on my table saw ,took about 15 minutes, I set it up and then tried to fool it into giving me false measurements. I was the fool, it was always right when measured by a ruler. It is really nice because you can extend the outrigger table extention and it will still read accurately or go to the right side of the blade and it gives you a minus reading. Although it doesn't compensate for the thickness of the blade when you switch sides of the blade after zeroing on one particular side.

It reads in mm of inch/decimals, or 32nds of an inch , take your choice. I don't know how they do it, but this is a fine tool ,Bosch Quality.

I have not used this a ton. I pull out the table saw about once a month or two. What I like is that I don't have to "calibrate it" each time. I do check it, but it is always right on between uses. It saves me so much time while using it. Just unlock, slide to measurement, lock, and CUT! Done!

A must have for this saw. Save money and buy separate. Very easy to install.

Measure once, cut once is the best way to describe this tool.

I added this onto the Bosch saw and it really makes setting up the cuts faster and easier. I have had to re-zero it (kind of like zeroing out a digital scale) between cuts if I bump the fence hard, but it was out of caution more than anything else.

As far as portable tables saws go, the Bosch is a very good, and very accurate saw. However, I never had much faith in the little sheet metal pointer and scale under the magnifier and I would always double-check my measurement between the fence and blade manually prior to cutting. So I was skeptical that a digital fence would be any more accurate than the pointer and scale, but I was so wrong.
My digital unit arrived today (packaging was crunched on one end, but the unit was okay) and installation took about 15 minutes. The instructions are quite good and easy to follow.
Then I put the Carriage Display to the test. I zeroed the fence to the blade and then moved the fence to the right a few inches. I then measured between the edge of the blade and the fence. Dead on. And I mean to the 1/32" dead on. Several more attempts to see if there was any slop in the measurements. None. Took the fence to the widest cut around 25", still dead on.
I'll probably keep my digital resolution set to 1/32" and not 1/16" simply because I am enjoying the accuracy and my repeat cuts will always be right. I'll most likely not use the decimal scale or millimeter scale either. I'm old school, you see.
Will I always zero my fence to the blade before I start cutting? Yes. I manage a small group of mechanical inspectors. They ALWAYS zero their measuring devices, so why wouldn't I do that too? It just takes a moment and make a lot of sense.
Beef up your Bosch table saw and get this add-on. It's not a gimmick, it's the real deal.
