While I was in college, I worked on a student-run carnival which involved the construction of several large playhouses, entirely from wood. Erecting these structures required the work of hundreds of college students over the course of an entire week, working 24/7 (literally, day and night). It also required lots of bolts, which is where these spade bits came in handy. Drilling the holes for bolts requires boring all the way through several adjoining 2x4s, and normal spade bits often stop "biting' after punching through the first stud, and after a few studs, normal spade bits start to get dull, and both situations require you to leverage yourself and really strain to get your hole cut. These bits, however, cut through the wood like its butter, without so much as a whimper. I can understand the other reviewer's frustration, because I did have some friends try to use my bits in their drills, and their drills just weren't able to provide the necessary torque to keep these aggressive bits turning.

When paired with my 18v bosch cordless drill with LED light, these bits saved me a LOT of trouble. There were times when i was drilling a hole in a pitch-black corner in the middle of the night, between two studs, standing on top of a ladder (I know, bad idea), where i couldn't get much leverage at all, and all i did was shine the light where i needed the hole and point the screw tip towards it, and fire. The threads catch really quickly, and pull the bit right through the wood, requiring minimal leverage or force or effort on your part. The best part is that they really do keep cutting longer than traditional spade bits, so you don't need to change them as often, so they kind of pay for themselves.

These spade bits are some of the best around, they will go through ANYTHING!!!!! Just one thing......you HAVE to be using a very high-torque drill. So, if you are using say a 14-volt cordless cheapy, the drill is going to bog down quickly, because these bits are "threaded" and they pull the bit into and through the wood. Like I said before you need high-torque, so use a corded drill or at least a decent 18-volt, you will be MUCH happier!!!!!!!

Bought a few after I saw these at the local Lowes. They came with other drills and a cool case. These new Daredevils were FAST!. Used them in my 18v NiC when running some electrical through studs for a basement job. All I had to do was hang on and the bit pulled itself right through. Didn't even have to push at all like the others I've had in the past. It was really smooth too. They cut like butter.

This bit went above and beyond my expectations. Easy to use, stays sharp, saved me a lot of time. It is not a hole saw so you need to be careful of doing damage depending on the type of material you are cutting. What a great addition to my tool box.

This drilled through my door in about two seconds while I was installing a peephole. You can tell that it is built with great craftmanship.

Great for drilling rough holes. You have to be careful though as its aggressiveness in drilling can cause loss of control of the drill.

Saw the videos, read the reviews, bought the bits. While they certainly cut aggressively, in my opinion they're a bit too aggressive for their own good.

First hole I tried to make was on a piece of scrap from my kitchen cabinets. The cone pulled itself through really quickly, just as expected, and then the entire thing just froze, nearly jerking the drill out of my hands. Backed it out and tried again; same thing. It was just trying to cut too much too quickly and the friction was awful.

So I figured I shouldn't really be testing it on cabinetry since the bit's main purpose was for knocking holes in wall studs and the like, and gave it a shot drilling up into a wall cavity from down below to run some new cables. Same thing happened. and I had to keep backing it out and starting over to get it to actually make a hole. Once the cone finally broke through, that was it; it would not go any further.

I ended up switching to my rusty old Craftsman bit to finish the job. It may not have pulled itself through the wood as if by magic, but it did actually make it through without binding, and ultimately, it was quicker. Your mileage may vary, but whatever your experience I wouldn't recommend throwing away your old bits just because these came out.

Too aggressive for me. A DIY'er not pro, I prefer to drill my cabling holes as carefully (slow) & as clean as I can, but in a test on a spare block of wood the screw tip of this 7/8in Daredevil bit (and it's angled cutting tips) pulls the bit into the wood so hard that it kept jamming to a stop. It probably would live up to it claims of drilling faster if you use a powerful drill (like I used) and handle it aggressively like a pro, but for me it was out of control. My test hole also turned out a little more like a funnel than hole because of all the jamming. FWIW, many of the studs in my home are strong but age made them prone to splitting (as my electrician discovered several times in my garage, resulting in lots of repair work for me), and I'd worry that an aggressive bit like this might risk damaging my studs esp. if it snags a framing nail while using it aggressively. I could probably handle an aggressive bit like this for smaller holes but for 7/8in I'm much happier with a conventional spade bit I picked up locally and will toss the Daredevil (also bought locally) in the trash.
