The big picture with fine detail.,
This review is from: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management: How to Understand, Service and Modify (Paperback)
This book is geared not to the performance enthusiast, but to the veteran trouble-shooter and D.I.Y. home mechanic. Wonderfully clear briefs and specific testing procedures. In-depth theory and operation. Does not pretend nor try to cover specific data of all cars. This is the big picture, and then disected component by component. I found using the book with the factory manual worked best.

A well written and informative book.,

This review is from: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management: How to Understand, Service and Modify (Paperback)
This book covers both electronic and manual fuel injection. It gives a general explanation of how each type works with a more detailed description of each type later in the book. There are trouble-shooting guides and testing techniques are included. My only two criticisms of this book are: The trouble-shooting guides are not as comprehensive as they could be. The chapter on tuning basically tells you not to bother and includes very few useful tips. Unless you are interested in the performance tuning of your fuel injection system this is an excellent book and well worth owning.

A very good explanation of BOSCH fuel injection systems,

This review is from: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management: How to Understand, Service and Modify (Paperback)
A very good book that explains how all the bosch fuel injection systems work. It has some diagnosis charts that take you step by step on diagnosis and repair of the different parts of the injection systems. However, the author missed on how to internally tune the volumetric air meter, which is the most important piece of the system. The performance tuning part gives you some ideas on how to modify your car injection system. I used it to modify the system on my car, with some gain in performance. It has a lot of pictures and explains very well what it covers.

F.I. Bible,
This review is from: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management: How to Understand, Service and Modify (Paperback)
Whether your car be Japanese. German, American or what ever, chances are its injection system is licensed from Bosch. This book covers electronic, mechanical and everything in between; as far as cars go. I've used it on my BMW, Mercedes< and Chevrolet, and I'm a beginner as far as fuel injection goes. Clear, concise, and written for the laymen as well as for the technician. This is the bible on fuel injection.

This book was not as complete as the previous review had rendered. The "how to Tune and Modify Bosch Fuel Injection" book authored by Ben Watson was more complete and addressed troubleshooting guides. This book required you to have a set of OEM manuals for the proper spec's. The book was a good overview on operation and theoreticals on the systems but didn't allow enough info for the tuner and troubleshooter, especially for the CIS systems.

Very good book,

I bought this book as a companion to my VW Vanagon book. Since I was new to fuel injection, and the Vanagon book had little/no troubleshooting information, I was completely stumped with fuel injection/ignition problems after a major overhaul of my '85 waterboxer engine. The Bosch book was a life saver. Not only did I (quickly) get my engine running, but I now understand how the whole thing works. Even for people who don't have Bosch systems and want to learn how fuel injection works, this is a good book.

Want to know how it all fits together?,

Ok, so you know a great deal about fuel injection. You understand what an Injector is, you know about O2 sensors, you know the difference between MAP and MAF sensors. But you just can't quite understand how each of these components interacts with a Fuel Injection system. Then buy this book. It does a good job of explaining how each component works, and what it's role is in the system. Even if your car doesn't use a BOSCH system, the concepts are still the same. Once you understand the basics, the rest falls nicely into place.

A Must Have for All Mechanics,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management: How to Understand, Service and Modify (Paperback)
I have been trying to fine tune my VW's and Audi's for the past 2 years to factory specs. I wasnt very succesfull. I then read a few reviews for this book and decided to get it. It is the second best book I have (first being the Bentley Manual) for my cars. I took my cars to several mechanics to try and get them back to factory specs but they never could do it and charged outrageous amounts. After reading this book I was able to get everything set back to specs and things are running great. Any Do-it-yourself and all foreign car garages should have this book available to them. BUY IT AND YOU WONT BE SORRY!!!!

Have Bosch? Need Book!,

This review is from: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management: How to Understand, Service and Modify (Paperback)
Great layman's description of how the various Bosch systems work. It helped me understand the hows and whys of my little BMW. I got this car for free because it had been repossessed twice, probably due to the problem we solved with help from this book. I agree with another reviewer, though, who complained about how the book promised high performance information, but delivered very little. In fact, none was relevant to my system. I would still recommend the book to anyone who has a Bosch fuel injection system, though.

Not what I had expected..,

If you own a vehicle with a BOSCH Jetronic system, then I highly recomend this book. However I think beyond that its not of much use. Personally I bought this book for the purpose of aftermarket tuning of engine management systems, however this book doesnt touch on it as advertised. It does a good job of teaching you EM basics...however you can learn the same for free on specialty websites. The author really does not seem to support DIY performance tuning. I was hoping this book would take on how ECU's are tuned, but it does not. Its a great tune/repair manual for these types of EM's...but it stops there. If you dont own a Jetronic style system (which for the record most stand alone units are not like), dont buy this book in my opinion.I give it 3 starts based on what I was expecting...but if you need a repair manual...its worth 4 or 5. |
