And with plumb and level point projection, the GPL3 accurately transfers and aligns level, plumb, 90-degree, and grade points. In fact, it is accurate to within 1/4 inch at 100 feet.

Featuring a smart pendulum leveling system, the GPL3 indicates out-of-level condition, self levels at five degrees, and locks when switched off. I've been using this laser on and off for about 3 months. I've had no major concerns with it as I simply use it as a reference point. There are more expensive/precise lasers out there, but this one does the job just fine for me.

I do think the tripod mount underneath is a little awkward, but since I usually just set it on the ground it is of no concern for me.

This is a great device for laser alignment, and self-leveling features work excellently. For clarity, this is not a chalkline laser-level, this is a device used for aligning points, such as one might use for aligning a point to place a projector in relation to a screen, or for aligning drywall installations or piping. This is not the type of level you would use to hang pictures, or make sure a table is level.

The box contains a belt pouch and a magnetic attachment, both helpful items, as well as a tool for calibration.

Two out of the three special features described on the box of the GPL5 do not exist.

First of all, "Easy Field Recalibration" does not exist. The unit comes with a recalibration wrench and the manual dedicates two pages on how to recalibrate. However, the manual refers to a "CAL" switch position that does not exist. I emailed Bosch and they replied saying: "The manual is incorrect. The GPL5 does not feature a calibration mode." Excuse me, but we're not talking about a typo here.

Secondly, there is only one threaded mount for a 1/4-20 camera tripod. The 5/8-11 mount described on the box and pictured in the manual does not exist, so you can forget about using this unit on a heavy duty construction tripod.

The specs claim a range of a 100 feet. I would say in practicality it's about half of that. At 50 feet, the diameter of the laserdot is about a 1/2 inch.

All that said, it's not a bad unit for laying out small areas indoors.
