A very happy mixer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosch MUM 4505UC 450-Watt Stand Mixer/Kitchen Machine (Kitchen)
I got this mixer as a Christmas gift, and I'm very pleased. It has a small footprint on the counter; I love the splatter guard, particularly while creaming butter & sugar or whipping cream/egg whites; and it's rather quiet for a mixer. I also have two of the attachments so far (with more on order), and I'm pleased with those. The Bosch should replace my ancient Cuisinart, because its overall convenience will mean I'll use it much more frequently.I gave it four stars instead of five because it's hard to scrape down the sides of the bowl while the mixer is running. That's not a big deal to me, but it would be an extra convenience.

The most awesome kitchen machine!,

Throughout my life, I learned to cook with my mother's larger Bosch. When I married and left home I would whine that I wanted one too. Last Christmas she bought me the Bosch 450 Watt mixer (then distributed by Toastmaster by special agreement with Bosch). I cannot stress how much I love this machine. It is quiet, compact and is able to mix cookie dough excellently. I have the blender attachment, which grinds 4 -6 cups oatmeal to flour-like consistency (required in my cookie recipe) in seconds. My old blender used to get jammed if I tried to put more than 1 cup of oatmeal at a time in it. The machine whips egg whites, makes great frosting, bread dough is no problem, but most importantly -it is incredibly compact. The motor arm snaps down and the machine can be easily stored in a cupboard or exist on your countertop without taking up much space. I bought the continuous choppper attachment for grating cheese, chopping vegetables, & making french fries. It was cheaper than the food processor attachment and seems to essentially do the same stuff (you just have to keep your own bowl under the "spout" for lack of a better word, which is actually a benefit, because you are not having to take the machine apart to empty out the bowl). But by far, the most valuable and best attachment for this machine (which drives my mom nuts because Bosch doesn't seem to offer a similar atttachment for her size machine) is the ICE CREAM MAKER! You keep the 1 quart, liquid-filled bowl in the freezer and, whenever the mood strikes, you pop that sucker out, mix up a recipe, and bam! 30 minutes later - homemade ice cream without the hand cranking or the loud & rock salt-requiring machines. The ice cream maker comes with a recipe book of delicious ice creams. My favorite is a variation of their chocolate ice cream recipe. The book suggests substituting any flavor of instant pudding instead of using the chocolate pudding it calls for. I encourage all who buy it to try pitaschio or white chocolate! Why waste money on Ben & Jerry's when you have you have your Bosch?

I've been looking for a mixer for a couple of years and found this Bosch. I've looked at [other mixers]...The Bosch is large enough for a double batch of cookies. It mixes well. It's fairly easy to add eggs, flour, etc to the bowl. It's not very heavy and has suction cups to hold it to the counter. And the price is comparable to the KitchenAid mixer. I gave it 4 stars because when I lift the head and batter is stuck to the beater, the beater comes loose. It's not really a problem, but it is an irritant. Don't be afraid to buy this mixer...it's fun to use!

Just love it!,

I just purchased this mixer and I must say I am impressed. I am not one to cook much but this mixer has changed my thinking. I am now baking cookies which I very seldom do. This machine makes it a breeze. I was delighted to find that for the price range this mixer has more power than a similar Kitchenaid mixer has. The mashed potatoes are excellant and am looking for more recipes to make with this machine. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a high quality stand mixer at a resonable price.

I love my Bosch Mixer,

My mother has owned the larger universal Bosch mixer for years and it is an outstanding machine with incredible durability. I was looking for a smaller mixer and after previous experience with the Bosch I leaped for the smaller bosch mixer(but not too small to handle medium sized jobs effortlessly). I am impressed by the powerful 450 watt engine(I was amazed at under powered the kitchen Aid unit is with only 250watts). The Bosch does a great job of doing a complete job of mixing and blending ingredients together in the excellent bowl; it so easy to use and clean, and I love all the additional attachments you can add to it, which work great. I can throughly recommend this excellent machine to anyone, in fact it will be on my list of future gifts to people I know who love to bake.

Just what I needed!,

I have gone bought 3 different stand mixers and I liked "none of them" they were either too bulky, heavy, noisy, and pricey. This one is nice and compact, lightweight, and mixes great! I really think that this is ideal for a family that bakes alot, I do not however make bread, so I cannot rate this item on that.

My 1983 machine is still working great,

I'm still using and loving the Bosch machine that I bought in 1983. It was a closeout item branded by West Bend and I'd never seen a machine like it, but I needed a mixer and the price was right. What a great investment. It still mixes super bread dough. I like not having to store several different appliances. We've ground a lot of venison with the grinder. Another great feature is that I can still find replacement parts if something breaks. How many other appliances have replacement parts available after 23 years?

I liked the idea of a 3 in 1 machine (mixer, food processor, and blender) and bought the attachments. It works - but is slow and does not have enough power for my taste. I'm not a big baker - but usually use around the holidays to make holiday desserts. I wish I had bought the Kitchenaid mixer, Waring blender, and Cuisnart food processor. Eventually, I probably will.......

Don't Buy This Machine!,
By Dynette Reynolds (Ogden, UT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bosch MUM 4505UC 450-Watt Stand Mixer/Kitchen Machine (Kitchen)
I bought the Bosch compact mixer about a year ago. The salesman promised me it would perform just as well as the larger mixer, simply do smaller quantities. Well, I have now used it on almost every possible type of recipe and the only thing it mixes well is a packaged cake mix. Cookie dough takes forever to mix. Cheesecake never gets smooth. Likewise with mashed potatoes. My bread dough doesn't get kneaded properly and turns out heavy and coarse. When I called Bosch's customer service to complain, they told me they couldn't compensate me just because I don't "like" the machine. Do yourself a favor. Buy a KitchenAid or a Sunbeam instead. That's what I'm going to have to do.
