This item is designed to be used with the Bosch Concept Mixer line, a now discontinued product, so do not confuse this with a standalone blender. There is no powerhead. What you are buying is the stainless blender jar, the gasket and blade assembly, and a locking lid. The price is high, too high for sure, so shop around. There will be some available for the next year or two before they are all gone. This blender mates with the Concept line of Bosches, a belt driven system available in a few different configurations. The basic Concept was a white plastic affair, the Concept 7 built-in was a $1000 in-counter flush mount system, and there was also a stainless steel standalone model sold. I have the in-counter flush mount unit and this blender came along with it as a free accessory enticement when they were closing the units out. I can tell you right now there is no more powerful a blender on the market short of those ugly commercial behemoths they use to crank out the cheap happy-hour Margarita's at El Torito. The Bosch Concept has a "slow-start" startup and a locking lid. But once it gets blending then nothing will stand in its way. You will probably eat up the blades, but you could grind up a 2X4 in this thing. It is mondo powerful. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and one of the first things I made was a huge batch of pureed red chile. The chile came out smoother than I have ever been able to get chile blended before. The blender action was magnificent. I have pretty much resolved after having this mixer and blender and food processor etc. around that I am going to do what it takes to keep it working for a long time. I do not foresee myself ever reverting to another cheap-assed Hamilton Beach blender again.

This thing is listed as a blender. It purees, chops ice, and all that stuff according to the description. It sounds like a self-contained and complete BLENDER. But it's not, despite its hefty price. It has to be used with other Bosch kitchen machines that cost upward of [$$$]. Otherwise it's worthless. If you want a REAL blender, get one that actually has a motor.
