Review for the Bosch 500 Series, 30", Model NIT506UC

We really like this cook top. We installed this in January 2013 after dithering for several years...."do we really want to give up our gas cook top?" We bought a small Max Burton single induction burner to give it a go; really liked it but that is like comparing a Ferrari to a compact car. They will both get you where you want to go but the Ferrari will get you there faster & in luxury. This Bosch really cooks. We both enjoy cooking so this cook top gets used a lot. We cook everything from simple dishes to gourmet & we entertain frequently.

We were replacing a 30" gas cook top. Our kitchen is not in need of renovation so we kept the 30" size. So, it came down to a Kitchen Aid, the Bosch 300 series & this Bosch 500 series. We went with the 500 series Bosch mainly because of the extra heat setting adjustments. After using two different small induction burners, we quickly learned that having more options for varying the heat is really important and worth the extra money. We also liked the layout of the burners, size & heating capacity & the controls being located in a line across the bottom. It just made sense. We decided against the version with the controls located in the stainless strip because it really didn't add anything to the cooking experience, more gunky buttons to keep clean, really didn't think we would use the "AutoChef" feature & it was more money. And that blank space to the upper right side of the large burner is just enough room for a spoon rest & my salt container; we leave them there all the time for convenience.

So, how does it cook? WOW, excellent! We thought we'd never give up cooking with gas but after using this for several months, we can't imagine wanting to go back to gas.

Installed without issue. Gas performance (actually better) but with electric induction power and soo much cleaner. Great cooking experience. Boils water is seconds. Had to buy new pot/pans for induction system but that just made it all the better.
Cleans easy and can be cleaned almost instantly since it cools soo fast. Also does not require the venting requiremts of gas.
Looks great, cooks great, cleans easy,

Have used the cooktop for about three months. It has surpassed my expectations. I first saw induction cooking about 42 years ago in a high-end kitchen design store. Yes, 42 years ago. At the time, the units were installed randomly under glass that looked like tile. I didn't even know they were there among the other tiles on the counter. The Europeans are clearly ahead of everyone else in appliance innovation. It was demonstrated to us and I could not believe the concept of a burner not getting hot. I knew then, that I wanted to someday have this cooking method, but the price was always an issue.

It functions exactly as advertised and this brand or model does not make the loud humming sound I have read in other reviews of induction cooking. There is a slight hum at the highest cooking level, but it is not bothersome, especially, since I use my exhaust fan all the time. I only buy appliances on the rating of Consumer Reports, Amazon and Epinions, so I have never had a lemon for an appliance, yet. At the time of purchase, this one had a very high rating and was finally in a price range I could afford. It has all of the safety features you could want and I think it would be especially good for families with children or the elderly, as you cannot burn yourself accidentally if you turned it on and forgot to put a pan on it. It turns itself off without a pan or if you have a pan with nothing in it.

For me, the two best features are: 1. Nothing can burn on the cooktop if something spills over (including sugar) and 2. The temperature range is faster to reach than gas or a regular electric cooktop. With my old electric cooktop, it could take a while to cool down or get to a lower temperature.
