You Need an Adapter for this Adapter...,
By
This review is from: Bosch RS006 Hose Adapter for Various Sanders (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm very disappointed in Bosch for the design of this product. This "adapter" will not adapt to anything you have in your workshop, such as a standard 1-1/4" ShopVac hose. It adapts to 35mm. But worse, the product description that Bosch provides does not describe the product at all. No dimensions are given!
If I had *known* that I needed an adapter for this adapter, I would have ordered it at the same time, since the price is less than what it costs to ship. I was able to get this adapter to work by going to my local Woodcraft store and buying an inexpensive vac hose multi-adapter which has stepped diameters. (You just cut it to fit the two parts you're trying to mate.) Bottom-line: Bosch should *include* a vac adapter with their sanders (I would rather pay a couple extra dollars), and that adapter should be appropriate for the market they're selling in (i.e., North America vs. Europe/Asia). Poor design, poor marketing. I would have thought Bosch could do better.

The new version of this adapter is made of much stronger plastic (the original was soft rubber). It also now has two latch type prongs that hold it securely to my sander. Bosch offers four additional adapters to enable you to connect a variety of shop vac hoses to this adapter:
BOSCH 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" hose-to 35 mm port Adapter VAC002 BOSCH 35mm hose-to-1-1/4" port Adapter VAC003 BOSCH 35mm hose to-2-1/4" port Adapter VAC004

I was just scratching my head, why this small plastic part did not come with sander. It cost almost 1/5 of the sander with S&H.
The round hole is too small! It reduces airflow to about 1/3 of the original oval hole. More, round hole is very non-standard, so you will need adapter for this adapter, if you have any standard american hose. Btw, Bosch hose i a joke. Don't even think about that. I made a new adapter for my 2" Ridgid hose, which goes from the outside of the oval hole, not from inside. Airflow more then tripled. I would not recommend this to anybody with enough skills to make a better adapter.

I bought this adapter for my Bosch 3107 sander recently. It makes a nice snug connection that locks in place, I just question how long the plastic clips will survive before breaking off. I'm really glad I bought it because now I capture almost all the dust my agressive little random orbit sander can generate. I sanded my deck and there was no noticable dust settling on nearby cars or driveway. Unfortunately, the port on the adapter is a very oddball size, but I stubbornly refused to buy the overpriced, single-purpose vac hose from Bosch. A 1" OD adapter would fit inside the port. I opted for a pliable mini step adapter (#815898) from Woodcraft for $4. They don't have this item on their website; I would call, try mail order catalog, or visit one of their stores. By cutting off most of the smallest step from the step adapter and slicing off the little nubbies on the outside of the RS006 port, I achieved a real snug fit. The big end of my step adapter was a tad over 1.5" but it made a nice snug fit in the gray end of my Mr Nozzle vac hose. This configuration did not pull loose once on my deck job.

Shipping was a ripoff, I paid $8 for shipping.
I did have to buy a step adapter for my shop vac becase I didn't want to buy another adapter and spend another $8 in shipping. My sander worked a lot better when I attached it, however the clips that hold it to the sander broke after 2 weeks. Bosch, same on you for such a terrible system.

I wish it came with the adapter in the first place! Dewalt had their built in, I hope Bosch changes theirs soon. Work fine, and it wasn't too expensive.

this is a good piece of hardware, does the job. But why was'nt it included in the price of the sander? I am a thirty year professional woodworker and this is the first sander I have purchased that did not have an included vacumn hookup. If I had realized this before I hit order I may not have bought the sander.

I purchased the RS006 and VAC001 as a package. What can you say about an adaptor. It works. it fits the Bosch sander just fine. The ear clips are poorly fitted when compared to the exhaust filter that ships with the sander. Had to force mine to extend far enough to clasp the sander. The lack of dust in my enclosed basement workshop is its endearing quality. Bosch should ship this attachment with the sander. Cost more to ship it than to purchase it.

I picked up this adapter fitting to go with my Bosch 3727DEVS 6" sander which is a beautiful amazing machine and I highly recommend it. But this is not a review of that however.
First off, you need this fitting to take care of the oblong hole coming out of the Bosch sanders. Next, I picked up a 1-1/4" x 14" Extension wand for about $6.50 from Lowes and cut it on my bandsaw slightly less then in half . Keep the fat end, this will fit perfectly into the business end of a 1-1/2" shopvac hose or most any other commercial vacuum adapter. Take the end of the hose adapter, it has little nubs on it. Sand them down, and slide that into the cut end of the extension tube you just cut. Myself, I used super glue to hold the two pieces together and then sealed the whole thing with silicone adhesive caulk. Let everything dry and you are done. Everything fits tightly and holds together great while you sand. In fact the suction on the board is almost too much. Four stars because Bosch doesn't include this in the box. |
