I originally thought the threaded tips wouldn't work very well and were a bit of a gimmick. I was wrong, they are the fastest-boring spade bits that I've ever used, by far. You actually have to pull back with a fair amount of force to stop the bit if you're not going all the way through the wood. These are especially useful if you are drilling overhead or in a tight spot where you can't get much muscle behind the drill. The bits do all the work. As for the previous reviewer, old yellow pine can be VERY hard and have some pretty tough knots in it. If these bits broke on something, I'm sure any other bit on the market would have broken also. Bosch does not make shoddy products.

Unfortunately I can't echo the nice comment already here. I did not have good luck with these. I picked up this exact set at a local big box store and had to take it back the next weekend with broken bit. I was drilling in some old pine joists when the tip jammed and broke off - this was within the first 5 mins of use. Nice idea, but didn't work for me.

This bit set has a nice assortment of bits that cut very fast for a spade bit. They are sharp and produce clean holes in most woods. The case is very nice and I will be using it for other bits as these wear out. The blades are hard to sharpen, so don't expect to do so unless you have the proper equipment. The wings on the edges are what make them hard to re-sharpen.

These bits will rust if they get wet! I had rain leak into the back of my covered pickup truck and the case got wet and I didn't notice it for a day. Some of the bits that I had already used had rust all over them. The unused ones still had the original oil on them that kept them in good condition. Make sure to keep them dry! The case protects and transports them very well. This set is a good deal if you add up what it would cost to purchase them individually. I will be purchasing a whole new set when the 4 or 5 most used bits sizes get worn in my set.

I am an electrician and i have tried dozens of different hole drilling methods before i found these great bits! I use them on a daily basis with my Dewalt 18v cordless drills! They blast through 2x4's with ease without the heavy grab that the DareDevil spade bits have! I love these bits so I bought a few sets and I never have to plug in a corded drill again! when you find something that works you stick with it! The case and the rapid feed tip is what attracted me first and the performance is what kept me!

I bought this set mainly for the Bosch brand and the large variety of bits. I too wondered if the tip was a gimmick. It is not, the bit feeds in fast. We are building a house and they have gotten lots of use with no problems.

Very sharp. When used with a drill press, it bites into the wood immediately, so be careful. Also, when using free hand with a portable drill, don't let it snatch the piece of wood out of your hands. I have used these numerous times, and are grateful that they don't skip around on top of the wood, especially hardwoods. I actually use a tiny pilot hole when I need precision, as the bits dig in to whatever depression there is on the wood. Highly recommend.

The threaded end actually pulls your drill through the work piece. I find that using an impact driver works best and the last 1/4 inch you have to put some pressure on it to break through the wood on account of the threaded tip not having anything to grab on to at the end of a hole. The holes are not too clean, but spade bits never are. This works good in 2 by material.

The case is great.....more tools should come in FLAT cases. It takes up minimal space in my tool bag unlike tool sets with bulky plastic containers. In fact, a big reason I bought this set was because of the flat case design.

I will probably buy more Bosch stuff just because of the well though out cordura flat cases.

I needed the "case", great price,best "spade bits I've had" used properly for what & how intended there should be no complaint from the skilled worker. "Buy American"!

This is a great spade bit set. Bits work great and the case fits perfectly in my drill bag.

Was what I expected, came in a very nice carrying case. Arrived on the date promised, would use Amazon.com again,
