Pricey, but absolutely worth it, June 7, 2010
This review is from: Bosch : SHE68E05UC 24 Evolution 800 Plus Series Full Console Dishwasher - Stainless Steel
I have gone through several dishwashers over the years, from GE, KitchenAid, and in 2005 a top-of-the-line stainless steel LG during a remodel. The LG was loud, even though it was advertised as quiet. Service people said it was normal. It washed OK, though sometimes required multiple cycles. The dryer failed once at 2 years. Finally, in late 2009, the LG stopped washing altogether. That was the last straw. I started looking for a new dishwasher.
I am very happy with my new SHE6805UC. I have an open floor plan and it was very important for me to have a quiet DW. I eat in the dine-in area of the kitchen, I don't have a dining room in my townhouse. Now I can wash dishes during a meal without needing to raise my voice, as with the LG.
I also have a home theater room directly connected to the kitchen. Sometimes I could hear the LG DW before. Now there is absolutely no way to tell it's running with the Bosch.
I also love the built-in water softener. Glasses always come out sparkling clean, which they never did before. I use inexpensive Morton coarse kosher salt that I find at my local grocery store (safeway). It works great.
The drying is also much better than any other DW I used before. Even plastics usually come out dry.
The 3rd top rack is also invaluable to wash long utensils such as long knives that do not fit in the standard cutlery rack at the bottom, and would get stuck in the dishwasher arms, preventing them from rotating.

Terrible value, really disappointing, July 4, 2010
This review is from: Bosch : SHE68E05UC 24 Evolution 800 Plus Series Full Console Dishwasher - Stainless Steel
This dishwasher (which shares its common elements with all other Bosch dishwashers) is one of the least satisfying dishwashers I have ever owned. Its issues are legion: flimsy plastic innards crack and malfunction over time. I have owned GE, Miele and a variety of other dishwashers. Their baskets and trays have lasted for many years with no issues. The Bosch trays simply do not last. My 4 year old dishwasher is in much worse shape than any of my previous dishwashers after a decade or more! It's only four years old and there are only two of us in the house. The flip-up and flip-down separators become detached, lose their plastic clips and otherwise malfunction. The soap tray is spring-loaded and flips to one side once the cycle starts. After some time, the shaft on which it slides becomes less and less slippery and eventually the soap tray fails to open. I have cured this problem with period applications of a high-tech teflon lubricant. But honestly, I have never had this problem with any other dishwasher. Finally, the stainless steel front panel is extremely susceptible to staining. You can't buff it without ruining its shiny finish, so over time, despite careful treatment and using a special stainless steel cleaner on it, it acquires marks from food, fingerprints, etc. that simply won't go away. Again not a problem with any other dishwasher I have ever owned. And the same can be said for the stainless steel interior. It gets stained easily and looks like it is very old after only a few years. The only thing this dishwasher has going for it is that it is very quiet. But it is no quieter than previous GE or Miele models I have owned, so no points for that feature.
