My new Bosch dishwasher arrived two weeks ago. I've only used the automatic cycle so far for washing. It takes 2 hours and 15 minutes for this cycle; a bit less time if I do a half load. (Other cycles are normal and sanitize.)
The rinse-only cycle takes 9 minutes. I've used it several times when I have too many dishes to wash in one load, or too few for a half load. Dishes come out of the rinse cycle looking very clean. (In fact, "only rinsed" dishes usually look better than hand washed items, thanks to the soft water and rinse aid.)

The machine cleans really, really well. I don't need to waste energy or water to pre-rinse or scrub anything before loading it into the dishwasher. (This machine uses less than 4 gallons of water per load!)
I use a cloth or paper towel to wipe off food particles before I wash. The filter traps anything left on the plates. The filter is right in front, easily visible, and one look tells you if you need to clean it. It takes less than a minute to remove it, rinse and replace it. This is great if you don't have an "electric pig" (aka garbage disposal) and/or don't want to send food debris into your septic system.

I love the built-in water softener. (We don't have a softener in our house.) My dishes, especially glassware, look *so* much better now; no more cloudy film from years of hard water.
I couldn't find the dishwasher salt in any grocery stores. I finally tracked down a box at a high end appliance store about 25 miles from home. FYI, the large crystals (salt) used in the softener looks similar to the stuff used in large home softeners. It's nothing like table salt.

A rinse aid product will leave your dishes dry at the end of a cycle.

Had no dishwasher when we moved in. For years I thought it was impossible to add one without a major renovation. The old portable we had was more bother than it was worth. Finally got the brainstorm to have a carpenter install an 18" dishwasher where a bank of drawers had been and build a frame for the drawers over where the portable dishwasher used to stand (unused). Had my choice of really low-end dishwashers or this one. It was hard to spend the money since I wasn't even sure an 18" would have a reasonable capacity to make it worthwhile and at the time these were going for even more then they are now.

It was worth it! I wouldn't even want a 24" dishwasher. It's just two of us day-to-day and this is perfect. We run it roughly every other day and still a a clean plate or two available while it's running. If we have company and run it twice in a day - who cares? It cleans better than I could have imagined - I'm convinced one of the keys is using the powdered dish detergent sparely. More is not better. Different settings have different run times but we start it after dinner and it's done in reasonable time. The instructions say crack the door when you turn it off to allow the steam to escape. It's a good idea to prevent condensation from putting water back onto the tops your cups and glasses but it's not the end of the world if you don't do it.

I am also amazed at how quiet it is - unlike the inferno racket the portable made. Like I said - best purchase ever.

My only suggestion to the mfg. would be to put an inconspicuous light on the top edge to indicate if it was running or not. Honestly, I have accidentally opened the door when it was still running because I couldn't hear a sound. No big deal, shut the door without incident.

I had to order the 18" model because the 24" model would hit my fridge if it opens. It was like that when I bought my house... Anyways, this dishwasher is one of the nicest things in my house. My wife and I rarely uses the dishwasher before because they were always noisy and wasted a lot of energy and water. She thought I was crazy for spending so much on one, but I was told Bosch has one of the quietest units around. Well, it's been a year and we have been using it at least twice every week.

I can't believe how quiet this thing is! First time I had it running, I thought it was broken because I couldn't hear any sound, except for a red dot on the floor. When I popped it open, I saw that there was indeed water and it was working. Well, after 124 anxious minutes, we opened it up after it was done cleaning and the dishes were spotless and dry! I was shocked. It's been working beautifully like that for a year with no problems!

The unit comes with all the hoses and accessory including the power cable for you to hook it up. We use Finish dishwasher tablet that you can get at Costco and we barely buy dishwasher soap anymore. In the long run, it's cheaper using those tables than buying dishwasher soap. Our water bill also went down because this machine is extremely efficient at using water. Gas bill also went down because the hot water boiler doesn't work as hard. All in all, it will probably pay for itself in another 2-3 years. I know it sounds stupid, but now this dishwasher is probably one of the best investment I made when we moved in!
