Deep, political funk and soulful jazz.,

I bought this on vinyl so I wouldn't know if there was a difference in audio quality with the cd, like that last review points out, but the vinyl sounds absolutely great. I've been collecting records for quite some time now and this by far is one of the best recordings of music I have ever listened to. They're fusion of different styles of music is what attracted me to this band to begin with, but their politically charged lyrics, probably controversial at the time, put them on top of my list. These guys don't hold back and I could feel the oppression these guys depict with their words. Musicians and poets way ahead of their time. It doesn't get better than this.

I ran across this on NPR. I have always liked pre-disco funk, War, early Funkadelic, What's Goin' On, Dr. John, Sly. This early stuff was too short lived, especially the political message that got lost so quickly. I have no problems with the sound. The bass playing is far advanced for anything of its time. A lost classic that combines politics and spirituality normally so oppossed to each other. The current cultural climate needs this resurrection.

Please know that this cd is not at all the quality of recording that we've come to expect with mastering and technical recording. This is rather what one would get from tape recording an OLD record of BOSCOE. I am glad to have it because I remembered them very well, but I do not have the record. It is wonderful to see how much ahead of their time they were; that a major part of the 1960s was BOSCOE's voice and dynamic. The liner notes in a booklet are great! Get it for the historical record of their only record.
