Classic Speakers Built Like a Tank, July 12, 2011
This review is from: Bose 301 Series IV - Speaker - 75 Watt - 3-way (Electronics)
I've owned a second pair of these since 1996, replacing my first set of 301's which I bought in 1974...gave the originals to a friend in exhange for an amplifier. I know there are a ton of bookshelf speakers out there to choose from, some very high end, but there's just something about these speakers that have kept me hooked for the past 37 years. There is something to said for the enduring, reflective sound aspects that the 301's are famous for. The 2 angled tweeters really project sound all over my house with amazing clarity. It's especially good with classical, jazz, or electronic space music. Flutes, pianos, violins just sing with stunning clarity. The 8" woofers provide more than adequate bass, especially fretless. Of course, I use them with the home theater aspect as well. A good, and very generous friend of mine recently upgraded his own system with top of the line audiophile equipment and gave me his 8 year old Harmom-Kardon AVR 8000 receiver, which is a monster in it's own right, and a Miller & Kriesel sub. Needless to say, this set-up has given new life to the 301's with added power and depth. I've always liked how the 301's lie flat, so they're not as obtuse and noticeable, if that's your preference. Get a pair of these, you won't be disappointed!

great speaker for home theater and moderate volume music., November 19, 2009
This review is from: Bose 301 Series IV - Speaker - 75 Watt - 3-way (Electronics)
I've had these speakers since 1999 with three different receivers, and they've never disappointed me when used as what they're designed for. Bose is not typically designed for loudspeaker applications. If you want a loudspeaker primarily for music, then this isn't the ideal speaker for you. They are great home theater main or surround speakers. They sound great with good full range. They're not designed to sound like an integrated subwoofer, but they handle bass well for a 4 1/2" cone. When these finally give out, I'll upgrade to the newest series of 301s.

Quality speakers at a budget price., October 14, 2002
This review is from: Bose 301 Series IV - Speaker - 75 Watt - 3-way (Electronics)
I have owned a pair of Bose 301 speakers for 15 years. They still sound great! They are hooked to a Yamaha A/V receiver that is conservatively rated at 85 watts per channel. I would recommend these speakers to anyone wanting a good pair of speakers without spending a lot of money for them. You can shop around and pay more for speakers, but why waste your time and money. The Bose 301 speakers are durable, sound great, look good and best yet, won't bust your budget. I would recommend these speakers to almost everyone looking for a pair!

Spend your money else where., December 9, 2006
This review is from: Bose 301 Series IV - Speaker - 75 Watt - 3-way (Electronics)
I've owned a pair of Bose 301 for 10 years. At best I would call these mediocre; at worst I'd call them, let's just say I need to pick up after my dog...
I've moved them around to different rooms and stereos without finding a home that seemed to work.
I'm about to give them to a family member who needs something in the kids game room, that would be about right to match their lack of quality sound.
Don't waste your time or money, do your homework, there are much better speakers in the same price range.
