Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Acoustimass 6 Series II home theater speaker system uses patented Bose technology to bring lifelike sound to your stereo or multichannel audio components. The Acoustimass 6 speaker system is small enough to blend effortlessly with any decor, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to bring large sound to small rooms. The Acoustimass 6 system is compatible with Dolby Digital (AC-3), DTS, DVD-Audio, and SACD program material, so long as your receiver provides a means of folding the LFE (low-frequency effects) ".1" signal into the front left/right speaker signals.

Hookup couldn't be easier using the system's color-coded speaker cables. All 5 primary channels from your receiver--front left, center, right, and left/right surround--plug directly into the rear panel of the system's passive Acoustimass module, which derives rich, full-bodied bass from the front left/right signals and passes each audio signal to its appropriate corresponding cube speaker.

The system's 5 Virtually Invisible cube speakers deliver vivid and lifelike music and movie sound. Just 3 inches square, these small speakers faithfully reproduce the clarity and natural sound of a live performance. Accessory mounting options let you mount each small cube speaker to your walls or display them elegantly on speaker stands (using optional wall mounts or speaker stands).

Bose recommends placing the Acoustimass module at the same end of the room as your television. The cube speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent image distortion if any of them is placed on or near your television. To prevent interference from the Acoustimass module, keep it at least 2 feet from the TV.

What's in the Box
An Acoustimass module (subwoofer), 5 cube satellite speakers, 1 module end cover, all requisite hookup cables (1 x 20-foot system input cable, 3 x 20-foot front speaker cables, and 2 x 50-foot surround speaker cables), 8 protective adhesive rubber feet, a user's manual, and a quick-setup guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars I had doubts, but no more, December 15, 2001
This review is from: Bose Acoustimass 6 Series II Home Theater Speaker System (Black) (Electronics)
I had been leaning towards a powered subwoofer and larger satellites from other companies when my wife gave me the AM6 on the recommendation of an audiophile friend. I have not been disappointed. The sound is crisp and clean, and when watching DVDs the rumble from special effects is great - I did not think a passive subwoofer and my modest receiver could do this. Perhaps this can't rattle the walls like a hundred watt subwoofer but the clarity and balance is simply great.

The setup instructions are very good, and the single big cable with all the wires for the receiver made hookup in the entertainment unit much easier. Only drawback is that the subwoofer must be relatively close to the receiver (~8 feet tops). It's a small price to pay.

4.0 out of 5 stars clean bass, great balanced sound, October 30, 2002
This review is from: Bose Acoustimass 6 Series II Home Theater Speaker System (Black) (Electronics)
I recently upgraded to the AM6 model having retired my AM3 (with different rear speakers). I have read other reviews on other sites that claim this system won't rattle the walls - well, perhaps the contributor did not set up the system correctly. Place the AM module (bass module) FACING the wall, about 2-3" away and prepare yourself for enjoyment!
I think a lot of Home "Theaterphiles" prefer the "boomy" or "thumpy" bass - well, more power (no pun) to them! The Bose AM6 produces the kind of bass response I really like - smooth, pure and without the boxy thump some systems make.
The surround image is a delight and one can fiddle with the little speakers to create an image field to suit one's taste.
All in all, it is hard to beat the quality and versatility of this system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crisp, clean and high quality, but not loud enough, January 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bose Acoustimass 6 Series II Home Theater Speaker System (Black) (Electronics)
I was lucky enough to find the Acoustamass 6 system at Sam's club coupled with JVC amplifier/tuner for a little less than you would pay for both if purchased separately. Bose lives up to their reputation for quality sound, but I found the system to be lacking in sheer ear-bleeding amplitude. The system can be run safely (100 W per channel) at maximum volume, but it simply doesn't get as loud as I think it should. Otherwise, I have no complaints about this fine product from Bose.
