If your ears could talk...,

...they'd tell you to buy these speakers! When I first heard these puppies on demo in the Apple Store, I was sold. Using the same iPod, I went from one speaker set to another, plugging in my iPod, using the same 192kbps encoded mp3 to listen to - comparing base, richness of sound, etc. I had already had JBL Creature Speakers I was fairly happy with, but returned them to buy these babies. When I first hooked them up, I wasn't immediately happy. You have to follow the instructions EXACTLY as they are printed on what is plugged in where, etc. The plugs have to be seated in perfectly for perfect sound. If a setup around your desk is tugging at the cables or if they're going around sharp corners, this will affect the sound. I knew that the setup I had heard on demo was flawless, so I was determined to get the same sound at home and I troubleshooted for almost an hour until I had rearranged some items and clutter around my desk until the cords were untwisted, untangled and not being forced around sharp corners. All I can say is, "I LOVE THESE SPEAKERS!" I wish I could afford a second set of them so I could have one for my TV setup in addition to my computer. The sound is rich, full, strong and everything you expect in a Bose for an unusually affordable price for this well known Rolls Royce of speakers brand. I wish Bose would team up with Apple to make a better looking setup, instead of everything so boxy, but for functional sound, these are "da bomb." With the subwoofer at my feet and the small satellite speakers to my left and right, I feel surrounded by a wall of sound. A few times, I hit "pause" while listening to iTunes because I kept thinking I was hearing something behind me - it was the speakers... they give off 3D quality sound akin to surround sound. I can plug headphones straight into the puck and when listening to the speakers, and a touch to the metallic surface immediately mutes the speakers in the event the phone or doorbell rings unexpectantly. The wheel around the puck gives a quick volume control. Did I say I love these speakers? I do!

better than my Creative Itrigue system,

This system gets loud, has low lows, and high highs. Don't let the small desktop speakers fool you. Clean, clear, crisp. The volume control is key. Its heavy, has some non adhesive sticky type rubber on the bottom, and your turn the whole dial around the "disc". Much better than the small scrolls on the I trigue I had from a couple years ago.It is very accurate at very low volumes, though you can't turn it "almost off" unless you use the volume control on the PC OS as well, which is fine with me. Almost makes not so perfect MP3's sound better. I don't game or need my PC to be a home theater system-- that's in the living room. I have an 8 speaker bose system in my car, and it's so so-- I'm not a "Bose-head" but I like this set.

Excellent for College And Saving Space,

My faith in Bose as of late hasn't been very high since the three different Companion 2 speakers that I returned kept making a weird clicking noise due to the power cord. These speakers, however, are quite excellent. They fit perfectly even on my very cluttered college desk. The sound they put out is excellent and as good or better than anything I've heard that's in the same price range. You don't get a room shaking subwoofer, but the sound quality is extremely clean.

Disappointing Sound, Stylish Look,

I purchased these speakers after my Klipsch 4.1's stopped working, and I decided that I no longer needed 4 satellite speakers. I did not get a chance to listen to them beforehand, but I figured that since they were $100 more expsnisve than the 3-piece Klipsch system, and the Bose name speaks for itself, they would be safe to buy.The sound quality I get is disappointing compared to the audio bliss that I'm used to experiencing with Klipsch. The bass is not as deep, nor the sound as rich. It sounds okay if I'm sitting directly in front of them at my desk, but if I'm anywhere else in the room, and especially in another room, the quality is lacking. On the bright side, the speakers are small enough to fit nicely on my cluttered desk without being too much of an obstruction, and the 'control pod' with its 'tap-on/off' and audio dial is a fun way of controlling the volume. I'd say these speakers get 5 stars for style, and 1 for sound quality when compared to the less expensive alternative I was also considering.

Expensive CHEAP Speakers,

I was sold on these on the compact style, the puck, in store sound, and the Bose name. But after having these things for 6 months, I gotta say I severely regret the decision to get them. My friend has got an Altec Lansing 2.1 system for $99, and it sounds just as good as this system. Plus, the things aren't even shielded! How you sell "computer" speakers for $250 and not even shield them! Thought it was maybe a defect; returned them for a new set, same interference. If having "Bose" engraved on your speakers will give you some sort of satisfaction, then I guess you won't be content with anything else. Just know that the actual sound quality is no better than a set of solid $99 speakers - which won't wake you up at 2am with gunshot noises cause you left your cell phone too close them. and after seeing the logitech z-5500, they don't even look that good. if you're spending this much on computer speakers, you may as well get a digital 5.1 system. Would be 2 stars cause the puck is cool. 1 star cause I feel like such an ass for convincing myself these things were worth the cash. |
