The good: It's the exact same high-quality OEM AC adapter that ships with the Bose SoundLink Mini.

The bad: The price is ridiculous.

The details:

The SoundLink Mini has received rave reviews in terms of sound least when compared to other portable Bluetooth speaker systems. That praise, however, has typically been accompanied by a range of valid criticisms. High on that list is the fact that while the SL Mini has a USB port, the device cannot be charged through it...unlike almost every other competing product. Instead, the SL Mini requires a proprietary AC adapter. Of course, you are here, so you probably knew that already. ;)

Bose's reasoning for such a proprietary adapter appears to be that the SL Mini requires an AC adapter that delivers more voltage than the USB specification allows. Of course, other competing products charge and operate fine with a lower voltage AC adapter, so this Bose design decision is a bit curious. Regardless, the fact remains that if you need a replacement or spare AC adapter, your spare USB charger is not going to cut it.

So what do you get for your $30? The same OEM charger that came with your SL Mini, including fold-able prongs for max portability. What don't you get? Anything else, including a vehicle charging plug. No, that is a separate product...for another $30.

So what are your options? Well, there are many third-party adapters available. You just need to find one that is 12 Volts DC, at least 0.833 Amps (although a higher rated current should be fine), and center positive polarity. Amazon has numerous such products...and these two are explicitly tagged as compatible with the SL Mini:

- Standard wall charger for $16: [...]
- Combined wall and vehicle charger for $27: [...]

Of course, there are many others not explicitly tagged as compatible that cost far less. In fact, you should probably be able to find one for well under $10, but since I have not tested any specific third-party adapter, I won't link to any others. When I do, I will post those links. That said, you are unlikely to find one that is as portable as the Bose OEM adapter, which fits nicely into the front pocket of the SL Mini's travel case when its prongs are folded.

So in summary:

- Function: 4/5
- Value/cost: 1/5

If they included a vehicle adapter plug, I would have increased the "function" rating to 5/5 and the "value/cost" rating to 4/5, but they didn' they get 3 stars from me, which is turning out to be a trend for all of my reviews for the SL Mini's accessories. Here's a hint Bose - the SL Mini's accessory prices are ridiculous...and we have ALL noticed.

I lost the original charger at a beach house, and was stuck with various ill-fitting generic chargers from eBay and Amazon that didn't fit the plug just right, and would only charge in the perfect position. Not to mention, they were all bulky.

Bose made a nice slim-fit charger, sturdy, and buy it used and reasonably priced. Also, fits perfectly into the best carrying case for the Bose speaker, : for Bose Soundlink SL Mini 1 & 2 (I and II Gen) Bluetooth Portable Wireless Speaker Storage Carrying Travel Case Bag fits Soft Cover/Charger/Cradle/Cable by co2CREA

This is one of the few times that the original equipment is the best (unlike Apple Lightning chargers)

Exact replacement of the original charger. Expensive but just what I wanted - fits nicely in the Bose carrying case.

Bent the connector that came with the speaker (don't ask) so had to buy another. Bose doesn't put their name on cheap stuff. They were the first brand I was ever loyal to and will probably always be. It's a charger and it charges.

5 stars because it works. My pup decided to chew up my other one, so this is a great, reliable, replacement that charges great. I like the length of the cord so that I don't have to put my bose right next to the outlet in order to charge it.

Absolute must if you buy the bose mini Bluetooth speaker. Make sure you buy to travel case for the speak. This charger fit right in the front pocket. The charger bose give with the speaker does not fit in the travel case with the speaker. This charger does!

i love bose and the sound quality that they provide that is unbeatable but the unique charger and it being ridiculously expensive if you lose it is total bs. They should've used micro usb for the charge and just a different port for updating

It's hard to go wrong with a Bose product. We lost the wall charger while traveling, and had to purchase a replacement. We were cautioned about using a universal charger for our Bose product because Bose is real touchy about backing their warranty if you don't use their proprietary charger, so we bit the proverbial bullet and bought another gen-you-wine Bose wall charger for the exorbitant price of $29.95. The product is great, but the price for the charger is ridiculous. And it only took Amazon central about ten days to get it to us with their regular shipping. Their email said it would take ten days or more to arrive, but usually we receive things we order in about half the time they say, so that was a little disappointing. Still the product performs perfectly.

This is the actual Bose charger for the SoundLink Mini and you don't want to risk getting a different one because it could kill your speaker if it's the wrong one or poorly manufactured. This is identical to the one I lost while traveling. Bose has engineered a nice charger that is relatively flat and the electrical prongs fold in, which allows it to tuck in nicely with the Bose SoundLink Mini case, or whatever you use to transport your SoundLink Mini.I dropped 1 star from it due to it's overly high price. I purchased a used one that looks brand new and saved $10 or 1/3 of the total price.

Any 12v supply with a center positive plug will work as long as the plug fits. As a matter of fact, the ubiquous charger for Seagate desktop hard drives and many others will work, you just have to be sure the plug is all the way in so the charge light illuminates. I haven't found noise to be an issue; hey, they're ok with using a car adapter! Just try to use a charger with at least 1amp output or charge time will increase.

On the other hand, this is such a tiny cute charger. It's elegance matches the speaker. It's a pleasure to travel with!
