UPDATE: July 11, 2014 - If you are seriously considering the Bose SoundLink Mini, you should be sure to check out the new (July 2014) Creative Sound Blaster Roar, which I've recently reviewed, before making your purchase of the Bose SoundLink Mini. The Creative speaker is significantly less costly than the Bose and sounds fantastic. It has many additional features that you may or may not deem uncessary. But the sound alone is so impressive and makes the Roar a bargain at the price it is being sold at. Very accurate sound without any of the Boominess associated with the Bose. NEW! Creative Sound Blaster Roar: Portable NFC Bluetooth Wireless Speaker with aptX/AAC. 5 Drivers, Built-in Subwoofer, Incredibly Powerful. Amazing Price of $149.99!. Up until the Creative Sound Blaster Roar, I was completely happy with my Mini. But now, I'm feeling more love for the Roar. No matter what you decide, you should at least check out the Creative Sound Blaster Roar.

---

The Bose SoundLink Mini really raises the bar in the high-end "mini" bluetooth speaker area, if not at least in sound quality then in build quality. There are several other speakers in this space, the two closest would probably be the Jawbone Jambox Jawbone JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black Diamond - Retail Packaging, and the UE Boom Ultimate Ears BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Black (980-000678).

Here is my take on the Soundlink II vs. the Mini as I think there are a lot of people out there who might be considering the two. I posted a picture in the main description with the two of them side by side so you won't think I'm blowing smoke :)

I purchased both speakers because I wanted to see which one sounded the best because even though I was initially attracted to the small size of the Mini, I figured I'd keep the II and spend the extra hundred bucks if it sounded better overall. After testing the two, the Soundlink II is headed back to Bose.

I don't even know how to explain it to you but the Mini actually sounds better than the II and it is 1/3rd the size. This makes no sense to me because the II has four drivers and two larger radiators and the mini has two drivers and two smaller radiators.

When I played the Soundlink II, the first thing that came to my mind was that somehow this speaker was lacking--in more than a few ways. The bass was weak, it sounded rather flat, it wasn't as loud as I was expecting it to be (yes, I pressed the volume button on the speaker till I saw the flashing light which means it's on max), and it had absolutely no stereo separation because you could easily pinpoint which direction the sound was coming from even at louder volumes. Honestly, I'd be embarrassed to turn the Soundlink II up during a party with a group of friends because I know it wouldn't allow us to "feel the music" because the sound has no depth. I knew I was going to send the II back after about five minutes of listening but I listened to it a little more to see if I would change my mind. If you remove the Bose logo from the II, I don't think you would pay more than $30 for it based on the sound quality alone. Yes, it sounds that bad to me.

Color Name: Black Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This Plantronics Audio 478 Stereo USB Headset came to me via the Amazon Vine Reviewers Program. It was a timely for me because I had just ordered a new computer and was planning on setting up Skype. I am an avid Facebook user and recently learned that I will be having shoulder surgery, so I will be using voice activated software to keep up with Facebook and other computer tasks - needing a solid headset with microphone to do so.

The Headset:
Solidly made, folds for storage with a small, but accurate microphone, this headset is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It fits completely over your ears - but it's not noise cancelling - noise still gets through - which frankly I like if I'm working so I can hear others come and go in the room.

The cord is about 6' long from the USB port connection to the headset. The control for on/off for Skype hits at about waist level when the headset it on me (I'm 5'6" with an average length torso). The boom for the microphone comes out from one of the earpieces. Because it rotates like the hands on a clock - you can have it coming from the left or right - whatever is comfortable for you. The headset is big enough to fit on larger noggins, and some with smaller heads may actually find it lose fitting.

Music and Gaming VS. Skype:
To use this headset with Skype you have to first go to Plantronics' website and download specific drivers that work with Skype. It's quick and easy to do so, and once I logged into Skype the software had no problem recognizing the headset immediately. Voice transfer was clear with only a slight echo occasionally. The microphone is noise-cancelling (giving a clear reproduction of your voice without noise in the room coming through too).
