A system that grows with you

The system's versatility is right in tune with the ways we get our music today. There's a built-in FM/AM radio and CD player for standard and home-burned MP3 CDs. With custom system packages, you can also enjoy music from your iPod or iPhone--even your computer, tablet or any Bluetooth device. This system adapts to all your musical needs, and endures because of its unmatched sound.

The Bose technology difference

This sound, from prominent lows to crystal-clear highs, is the result of unique Bose innovations working together. Proprietary waveguide speaker technology combines with other Bose technologies to deliver performance well beyond the speakers' size.

Waking up has never been easier
Wave music system III with iPod accessory
With custom accessories, the system can play your iPod, smartphone or any Bluetooth device

One of the best things about getting up in the morning is not getting up...right away. We've made snoozing easier than ever. When the alarm or music comes on, just tap the top of your Wave music system III. No remotes to locate, no buttons to press. So easy, you can do it in your sleep.

And dual independent alarms let early birds rise without having to reset the wakeup time for a late-sleeping partner.

Simplicity by design

The Wave music system III is meant to be enjoyed right out of the box. Just plug it in and you're ready to go. Its sleek appearance is uninterrupted by buttons--the invisible touch-top controls supplement the convenient slim remote. There's a 3.5 mm (1/8") auxiliary input for your MP3 or other portable player, and a headphone jack for keeping the music to yourself.

Has really great sound, but ALL controls are on VERY small remote, which is easily misplaced!! Buttons on remote are especially small for elderly aunt, which gift was purchased for. Needs to have some controls on unit itself for when remote is lost

We bought on of these for our 90 year old mother, who has moved into a retirement home and needed something more compact and easy to use than her old component system. We are probably going to be returning it due to two seemingly trivial problems.

- the headphone jack is on the BACK of the machine, so to hook up headphones you have to lift the radio, turn it around and search for the tiny black-on-black jack. If you have the multi-CD changer the radio part comes off when you do this and is fussy to reposition. She likes to listen with speakers during the day but headphones at night when it would bother others, but moving the radio to plug and unplug it on a daily basis is just too hard for her, as I suspect it is for many other older users. Why not just leave the headphones attached all the time, or put a short extension cord on them to allow plugging and unplugging? You can't because when the earphones or extension cord are plugged in the speakers are automatically turned off. There is apparently no way to fix this without doing very tricky internal rewiring which would void the warranty.

- the remote is too small. She can use it, but just barely, and is frequently frustrated by the experience. It's hard to read and the tiny, tiny buttons with little feedback are hard for her to push. She frequently pushes the wrong button then gets confused. And she frequently misplaces the remote because it is so tiny (and the Bose has no controls on the radio, so without the remote it cannot be used).

It's too bad Bose won't put the headphone jack on the front where it could be found and used like on most other modern systems. And it would be easy to offer a larger remote for the old or hard of seeing.

What a big sound from such a small package. I use to have last version of Wave Music System II and it was great, this new one is even better. They made radio sound so good, and it let you now the name of the song and the artist. The touch pad on top is very usefull to turn on or off the unit. LOVE this Music System.

We were looking at bigger options but this one absolutely does the job without taking up the whole counter. Really nice sound.

Really enjoying having a CD player in the living area. Loving the on/off with a touch. That said, the sound is not crisp. Doesn't seem to be a way to change that. Compared it to the sound in my 19 year old Honda and 7 year old Toyota. The Honda player won hands down with the Toyota system also way ahead. As a trained musician I admit to biases. I don't like muffled sounds. Suspect I could have paid a lot less and gotten better sound than this.

Purchased two of these radio, one for self; another as a gift. Both units randomly shutdown. Had each unit replaced. Same thing occurs with replacements. Have now replaced both units multiple times with the same result. There appears to be a design flaw with these units. The problem is particularly acute when playing MP3 disks. Bose has no solution for this problem. I have to hope this is not an electrical hazard nor a threat to the longevity of the unit.

I also have a 321 system, the DVD player included in the unit has significant issues playing jukebox discs as well. p.s. the dvd in the unit appears to be an ordinary PC player and the bass unit is a big box with just a small (5 or 6 inch) speaker in it; not a big woofer the size of the case.

The controls for the Wave Radio unit are also poorly designed.

1) While the touch on/off sounds neat; it isn't particularly practical.
2) The physical unit has no eject button, so you will always use the remote to eject a disk.
3) The sleep function doesn't retain its last setting. Each time the sleep timer is set, it starts at 30 minutes and you must click, click, click to get to the time you want.
4) Still no bass or treble settings. If you have difficulty hearing in a particular range, you can't adjust the sound output.
5) When the unit is off, you can't adjust the volume below a particular level. When you do switch it on at that level the unit is quite loud; so if you're trying to be quiet... s.o.l !
6) No USB input.
7) In my opinion the unit should have a DVD not a CD player.
8) Bose should remember that not everyone in the universe owns an ipod, not do we want to.
9) Title information scrolls incompletely and is only visible for a short period.

It's a bose. It sounds much larger than it is. It works for us just fine. We mostly just use the radio, not the disc player.

What is causing me to deduct 2 stars is that it's basically entirely dependent on the remote. I loathe electronics that require you to not lose the remote even for very simple operations.

The system sounds great ... clear tones over the audible range, provided it sits upon a hard surface. The unit looks great, is well built, and is easy to use. The tech service is superior, with domestic staff.

My one gripe ... an issue acknowledged by the Bose staff ... Platinum White yellows with age and Bose either has no way or does not care to fix the issue in current or future releases of the Wave System. Or should I write that their solution is to sell you on the next version at a greatly discounted price?
