5.0 out of 5 stars The best live CD I own!
I bought this to hear "I'm Your Captain/ Closer To Home" with the orchestra, and I was NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! I was pleasantly surprised and how awesome the entire 2 CDs sounded from beginning to end. Totally blew me away! Songs I didn't used to even like before like "Mean Mistreater" (probably because I heard it only on a poor live recording before)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun album, but GFR sounds like a nostalgia act
Hmm...no new songs, nothing from any of the band's lesser-selling albums, no risky arrangements. Yup, this is a nostalgia act, allright. And the pedestrian, ho-hum production of Ron Nevison is no help.

Totally blew me away! Songs I didn't used to even like before like "Mean Mistreater" (probably because I heard it only on a poor live recording before) are suddenly phenomenal-sounding and are among my all-time favorites. And songs like "Bad Time", "I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home", and, well all of disc 2 sounds actually way better than the original studio recordings! The production is excellent and the sound is clear throughout. I was stunned by this release! And by the way, the orchestra is a perfect complement to these songs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney, July 7, 2001
This review is from: Bosnia (Audio CD)
I've been playing music since '67 there has been a lot of reunion CD's but not very many actually live up to their billing. If you've been disappointed before let me tell you this.

As a musician I've always loved GFR. I bought this CD sight unseen for twice the price and I can tell you it was a deal. These guy after all these years continue to amaze me. I have played this CD for so many people and everyone without exception tell me they have to have it in their collection.

You can't go wrong if you love good R & R you need to buy this one. You will not be disappointed. This one really is a Collectors Item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Funk Railroad - The Magic is Back!, July 14, 1999
By A Customer

It has been over a year since I brought this "Bosnia CD" and I still can't believe that a band as great as they were in the late 60's and early 70's can actually play better now than they did then. Always a great live act to see, yes, but these guys play with energy and timing that is unmatched today by any other group. I was fortunate (un-fortunate)enough to see the Stones on that free concert that Direct TV put on a little while back and nearly fell asleep watching it. If you want a live rock album to get you pumped up about rock music again like you were in the 70's, when the mighty supergroups roamed the land, get yourself this Bosnia CD. Hearing "I'm Your Captain" with the live full orchestra is worth the price of the CD alone. I listen to this CD almost daily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like fine wine, they get better with age, April 10, 2002

Something remarkable has happened during the past 30+ years. As musicians, these guys have gotten A LOT better. As a result, their music sounds even better than it used to. This is one of the best live recordings I have ever heard. If you rememeber the "good stuff" (On Time & Red Album) you are going to LOVE the first CD. Mark, Don, Mel and friends crank out incredible renditions of Time Machine, Heartbreaker, Aimless Lady and Inside Looking Out. The sleeper is a brilliant medley that has Paranoid, Sin's A Good Man's Brother and Mr. Limo Driver. Side 2 was done with a live orchestra led by Paul Shaffer (from the Letterman Show). The best way to listen to this music is loud and with extra bass!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Funk Railroad brings us all "Closer To Home", June 14, 1999
By A Customer

I've read all of the reviews and agree with everyone except the "Prussia" guy/gal? This is not just another reunion band. These guys are fine tuned and have roared back to take their place as the best live show in the business. How can you compare a two hour non-stop injection on power with the lifeless shows I've seen of the Stones and Led Zep members of the day concerts? The answer is simple, you can't. Grand Funk is back, and this album was a long time coming. I can't wait for the 30 Years of Funk Box Set which will contain several new songs. Keep Funkin!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Grand Review, June 9, 2004

This cd was a total surprise to me. To find it in a music store and never having known it existed. I had owned G.F.R's previous live albums on vinal and on cassett. The energy that G.F.R had put out in concert when I saw the on the "Shinin' on" tour was totally amazing. That was what I got when I heard the first two live albums and I expected the same when I bought "Bosnia!" Well, I can honestly say that I was far from dissapointed. Also pleasantly surprised with "Peter Framton" and "Alto Reed" appearing as well as....(I forgot his name...leader of the band on David Letterman's late night show) was conductor of the orchestra behind G.F.R. I highly recomend this cd to ANYONE, especially those who appreciate Grand Funk RailRoad.

5.0 out of 5 stars This band has improved with age!, May 19, 2000

I normally don't buy 'live' albums because the sound quality is usually inferior and the crowd noises distracting, but when I heard that 'Bosnia' had a full orchestra behind it, I had to give it a try. And I'm glad I did! From beginning to end, this is a first-rate performance and recording. This is a 2 CD set. The first CD is excellent, with recording standards that somehow manage to rival studio sound. Mark Farner and Don Brewer are in top vocal form, sounding just like they did over 20 years ago.

But the second CD is where this really begins to shine. When I heard "Bad Time", I just whispered 'wow'. And then came "I'm Your Captain / Closer To Home", and let me tell you, it sounded so good it literally brought tears to my eyes. The orchestral arrangement really adds to the song. I loved that song in it's original form, and did not think it could get any better. But this version has managed to improve greatly on perfection. It is just stunning. Whether you're a new or old fan, I highly recommend this set!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand & Funky, January 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bosnia (Audio CD)
I had the opportunity recently to see Mark Farner in concert. He has still got it! On this 2-CD live set, the whole band still has it! From the early years to the more commercial years, the band is tight and simply having a good time. This is, by far, one of the greatest live albums available. Outstanding. Mark Farner is still the showman and can still play a mean guitar - and, what a voice! The orchestrations are just an extra added plus. Simply put, this album is grand - and Grand Funk at their best.
