I bought my RC-300 Boss Looper 3 weeks ago. I was able to mix loops and record songs on it the day after I bought it. The basic function of the RC-300 is intuitive. You seriously don't have to be a genius to begin using it, and the manual is great for the times you need to figure something out. The manual is not designed to read cover to cover. Just go to the index to find your interest then go to the corresponding page/pages. For me, I've finally found a machine that will allow me to record my ideas and work them out fully. With 3 hours of recording time and the ability to download via usb to a computer it suits my needs.

If I'd known this, I wouldn't have bought it.

My idea was to loop both vocals and electric guitar. You can do that--but either your voice is going to come out the guitar amp, or your guitar will be coming out the PA. I mean, you can designate a track to come out a certain output, either sub or main, but the inputs, your original voice and guitar, is always going to come out the same place. Boss customer support suggests I buy an effects processor with an amp modeling capability and thus make my PA act like a guitar amp, but nothing is going to recreate the sound of four ten-inch speakers and a stack of tubes. And don't even talk to me about a bass guitar amp.

So yeah, this is great with an acoustic guitar, and I'll use it for the electric guitar and give up the capability to loop vocals. It is a considerable improvement over the RC-30 in that the switchology is much more straightforward; you can focus on your song instead of where your foot goes next. The manual is mediocre but most settings are pretty intuitive. The sound is fabulous; no hint of loss or distortion in the recorded loops. Synchronization is great; easy to create consistent loops. Drum machine is great. Hell, maybe I would have bought it--but the main reason I upgraded from the RC-30 was to have that extra capability of separating the vocals and guitar, and I'm disappointed that I can't.

I have just had mine for a month and did a gig with it already. It took me a while to figure out how to get the tracks into separate channels on my mixer, and some of the other features, but it is much easier to work with live than my RC-50. Bringing in the phrases with one touch is a major improvement. The sound quality is excellent, and with the 3 hour memory I can now record some entire songs but still make it seem all live and not like a recording. I don't use the expression pedal, and one suggestion would be to make it the start/stop pedal. The actual one is a little hard to hit sometimes. But overall its great!

Have only had the RC-300 for a couple of weeks and already putting together some great tunes. It will take me a long time to learn all the little ins and outs of efficient track switching and putting together songs with 2 or 3 parts i.e. intro, main body, chorus and switching seamlessly between the parts but so far so good. I believe my guitar playing has already improved by being able to play along with the RC 300 on all the different parts of my compositions. The effects are good but I am mainly only using reverb, chorus, and delay for the acoustic stuff I am doing but flanger and phaser and heavy distortion don't sound that good on acoustic and aren't really in my bag of tricks yet. The rythmn section is also very versatile but I had to buy a couple FS6 foot switches to get a little more functionality to switch between beats and change effects. Highly recommend this machine.

If you need more looping than this, I can't help you.
Built like a tank.
Instruction manual easy to understand, on line materials useful too.
Effects are thoughtful. Limited to one effect at a time.
Very intuitive to just plug in and start using.
