If you are looking for a cut-down version of the Boss DB 90 Dr. Beat Metronome that is easier to take with you in a pocket, then this is for you. It keeps many of the most essential features that made Dr. Beat metronomes the best on the market years ago, and is much smaller and more portable.

However, there are compromises: the volume controls for the beat divisions, bar line accents and overall volume control are very limited four-step controls (off, quiet, medium, and loud) controlled by successive presses of a button. This is not nearly as flexible or convenient as the sliders on the DB-90. Moreso, the tempo is controlled by a button, which must be pressed once for EACH beat per minute (bpm) of tempo change, which makes any significant change of tempo laborious. You can use the tap function to get an approximate tempo, and then dial it in one bpm at a time after that, but that is still frustrating compared to the wheel on the DB-90. Also, the maximum volume, though reasonable for a small metronome, is still limited compared to its big brother.

Overall, I'd say this is one of the best small metronomes on the market, but if the size isn't an issue, the DB-90 is well worth the extra money for flexibility, ease of use, and the many additional features. For the serious musician looking for a serious metronome, I recommend Boss DB 90 Dr. Beat Metronome. For those who already have a DB-90 and are looking for a more portable version of it, this DB-60 is a great choice.

Dr Beats have always been great but the size was always an issue. This is everything you need in a compact metronome. you can use a ton of rhythmic patterns as well as program the time signature to change at the appropriate time. Its got a back light for when you need it, a pitch function for tuning, the buttons are easy to push. i can go on, but simply put this metronome is awesome. i found it for just over $60 so i don't feel like i took the hit of the original price ($90). which i would say is the only bad thing. the prices on these Dr beats are quite high, so shop around, but it's worth it,

Great design, fits in a shirt pocket. Can loop and join various beat patterns - fun to play with. Internal speaker tiny with slightly unpleasant chirping sound, but audio out can power earbuds or preamp for better sound.

This is the greatest metronome I've ever owned. The only thing better is the DB90. This little guy is worth every penny!

It is a must have, much better than the cheap ones with only 1 light and a beep.
You cannot stray with this...

This is my first metronome, but I think is awesome!! Has lots of nice features and it's super easy to use (haven't even looked at the user guide yet). I'm sure pros might go for the DB90, but if you're looking for a good balance between price and performance, this surely will exceed your expectations.

This Metronome was received as described and on time. Very nice! Just now learning to use it but I am very pleased so far.

My instructor was really impressed and plans to purchase one for himself.

Decent product with several little abilities. However, it's hard to access them without the manual. Although the product is pretty good, it is overpriced, probably for the name.

Is this a discontinued item by Boss? I'm a little out of the 'loop' on these things since I've only just now had to replace my last Dr. Beat after it provided me with nearly 20 years of unfailing service--it was finally stolen when I accidentally left it, and a pair of drumsticks, in my building lobby...they left the sticks and kept the Dr.Beat =-(

I'm getting to know this fascinating device and enjoy, thus far, all of the features. Nothing seems extra, silly or useless (no voices, talking, etc., like the newest DB's). My only question (if you have an answer please email me at greg underscore b "at" macdotcom) is: the main click seems to have a slight "flam" effect ... am I nuts or is that really the case? It's really subtle, and so far doesn't seem to affect the usefulness of this metronome, but ... just wondering ... ).
