4.0 out of 5 stars Boss HD Chair
The chair arrived in good shape before the promised date. While the assembly only involves 13 bolts and is straightforward, I would consider it a moderately difficult process. The only tool that fit the somewhat odd bolts was a large head Phillips screwdriver which is not going to be a denizen of most kitchen rubber band, twine, and tool drawers. The holes for mounting...

Because I am overweight, I ordered a chair that should have given me lots of support and room. It was not easy to put together, but manageable. However, about 3 weeks after getting it, one of the arm supports fell off. In trying to screw it back on, we discovered that one of the screws had no threads. It took trips to 3 different stores to locate the correct replacement screws as they weren't standard. In trying to put it back on we finally gave up. The holes are not really lined up correctly. (The arm rests themselves came pre-assembled on the chair as a piece that is screwed onto the back of the chair so we didn't even really check them to make sure it was all OK). In addition, the chair seems to continually "sink" to the lowest level after several hours even though I am well below the weight requirement. It does roll pretty well on the carpet I have under it. For stints sitting more than 3 hours it becomes rather hard, but for shorter uses it's not too bad. When the arm rest fell off, my husband said, "Probably made in China." I looked and he was right. Not a very good chair.

3.0 out of 5 stars stout chair, October 19, 2010

If you're looking for a heavy duty chair that won't fall apart after a couple of years I'd rate this one five stars if not for two gripes. The back is too low for a tall person and the chair does not recline nearly as far as any chair I've owned previously. These two things combined make the chair uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time and I ended up giving it to my wife. She's a smaller person and it suits her better. So, if you're a big guy (tall) like me you may find this chair uncomfortable. Otherwise, build quality is good and it should hold up well.

The holes for mounting the armrest were definitely hard to line up. Since there was some force needed for the alignment, I can imagine that it would not be unusual to get the fasteners cross-threaded.
Once assembled, the chair is exactly what I have been looking for. A steel frame holding the casters, a spacious seat, and a comfortable position at a reasonable price. I am 6'4" and 270. This one replaces the under $100 chair I bought 6 months ago dramatically failed leaving me lying on my back on the floor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Questionable Packaging and Damaged Parts, November 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boss Heavy Duty Task Chair (Kitchen)
I ordered this chair as a gift for my Dad. It arrived promptly in the promised time frame (1 day early, actually). The box had clearly been previously opened, and then resealed (I sell to packaging companies and have first hand knowledge of how automated packaging works). The tape appeared to be hand applied, and the cardboard was torn on the outer layer where the previous tape had been removed. Upon opening the box I found the tilt control paddle in a zip-loc type bag, and it was damaged. It appeared to have been broken and returned by a previous customer. While assembling the chair, it became clear that the hydraulic/tilt control system (part# YM8335) was either damaged or defective. I contacted the vendor first, and was referred back to Amazon. Amazon is arranging for another chair to be shipped. I could not get the parts alone replaced. I appreciate that Amazon has taken these steps, but trying to disassemble and repack this chair for return is not going well. I have not been pleased with this product and cannot recommend it at all. I am a Prime member, and will gladly continue to order from Amazon, as all my other purchases have worked out very well.
