I'm thinking of upgrading to the 300 I like the 30 so much.

The best thing is you can store 3 hours of loops which means you can record a whole evenings backing tracks.

The thing is solid and technically adequate for all but the most sophisticated mixers.

I've been using this unit for a while and overall think it is a great item. The thing is solid and technically adequate for all but the most sophisticated mixers. For practicing and saving those interesting phrases you stumble upon, it's just what a musician needs. There are some great features: mic input (XLR plugs right in!) and USB so you can save your licks and phrases to any DAW program on your computer or iPad. And 3 full hours of recording time! NICE!!
It's also a nice size. For traveling it's easy to pack. I use a Korg px5d and run it through this baby for great modeling and effects. Which brings me to the single item that keeps it from getting 5 stars..... There are SOOOO many great effects out there: phlangers, reverbs, tremelos, phasers, vibratos, rotaries, choruses, etc etc etc. When they picked the 5 on-board effects for this neat unit, they chose to go with the least useful and most sophomoric. To me it's a real waste of what could have been a most useful function. They must have consulted 8 year-olds playing with transformer toys or video games rather than serious musicians.
I compensate by using the effects on my Korg and the Vox amp I run this through.
The optional dual foot pedal is recommended. And you'll need to get the AC adaptor or you'll really gobble up batteries. There is no on/off switch, so if you forget to unplug the RC 30 from your amp while in battery mode they'll run down fast.
Roland has another great product here.........they nearly hit a home run!

I haven't had this thing long enough to give a decent review--though so far I love it--but I wanted to point out some great videos that will give you a feel for how to use it. Boss doesn't provide much in their manual or online, and most of the videos I've seen on YouTube or elsewhere are more about the performer than about the RC-30. However, Josie Charlwood has several videos on YouTube that include a separate camera aimed at her RC-30 and other effect pedals. You can see how effortlessly she switches tracks--without any of that 1/4 second delay some other reviewers mentioned. I suspect some operator error on their part; certainly I've had a few problems synching, but that's because I'm new to it. Anyway: check out those YouTube videos, then look for some of her other videos with the RC-30. I think you'll be convinced, as I was, that this is a great device. (And that she's a fabulous performer with a great future ahead of her!)

Oops--I tried to leave a link here, but Amazon wouldn't let me. Just do a search for Josie Charlwood RC-30 and you should find a half-dozen or so videos with the camera on the RC-30.

Read the in depth reviews on musicians friend, lots of details there, and very positive reviews. This is my first looper and I am impressed with the features in this pedal. Be prepared to spend some time learning how to use it and make the most of the features, especially if you are new to loopers like me. My playing has improved since I got this box - I can lay down some tracks and practice licks and riffs over and over again. The best thing is you can store 3 hours of loops which means you can record a whole evenings backing tracks. I can even run my computer to the aux input and record some prerecorded backing tracks directly into the looper. Havent used the USB yet, will get to that eventually!

Its expensive but well worth the money. IF you dont need the dual track feature the cheaper RC3 might be a better option. But for $100 extra I think the RC30 is worth it.

The Boss RC-30 is intuitivel easy to use. We purchased it to practice both instrumental and vocal improvisation. Wish we had it years ago.

Surprisingly easy to start using. The timing is the only tricky thing but that's natural.

Great new toy. Highly recommended for playing over yourself and laying down ideas with multiple instruments.

I didn't get this unit at Amazon but rather a well-known online music vendor who I prefer to do business with (sorry Amazon.) I was hesitant to get a looper because I consider them gimmicky, sort of cheezy and usually not done in any interesting way. But I gave it a shot because I'm a solo (electric) guitarist and singer who has incorporated drum machines and now a looper into his act to go along with my vast array of effects and amp simulators. Oh and I play a Fender Jaguar so my tonal options are, let's just say, wide open... I can pretty much get any sound under the sun. It's great. Anyway, onto the looper... simply put, I love it. I'm thinking of upgrading to the 300 I like the 30 so much. It's a powerful tool for the solo performer and I'll never not use one again. Once YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING (hint hint to many of the reviewers on this site of this product) it's a snap to use and I use it live all the time and record in a "live" manner with it "all the time" It is super easy to play a piece of music, click the left pedal quickly TWICE and the loop starts immediately. Works like a charm. Two separate looping channels, some "interesting" effects, ease of use, tons of storage time... what's not to like? Built like a tank. Love it. Don't listen to the ADD generation who didn't have the patience to read the freaking manual.
