this is a great pedal for the money. i am a guitar player that uses this on stage for double and triple voice harmonies. easy to turn off and on while playing and as usual with Bosss pedals, can take hard treatment and constant use without issue.

Does a nice job, but a few things to keep in mind,

Overall I'm happy with this unit for the sound quality reasons that have already been listed here. I have two issues with this product. One is that they don't include a power supply with it, and it eats batteries faster than I thought it would. I think when you drop $300 on a processor they should include something you can plug it in with (duh). I had to order it separately, they cost about $20 bucks (for Boss, I'll bet the unit cost is a few dollars). This kind of cheapness bugs me. I understand if it's a stomp box or something but this is a step up from that and they should know better. So I give Boss 10 lameness points for that move. Increase the price if you must, but don't weasel out of a simple AC power supply. They don't even have the decency to clearly list the AC power specs on the unit so I can go buy one at Radio Shack, it has to be ordered online. Second, I think they could have made the display larger like Digitech and some others do on their performer-type stuff. If you're under 30 and have good eyes I'm sure it's not a problem, but for me it's hard to see the screen when it's at my feet.

I don't know why this pedal is rated so high...,

I guess it all depends on what you're using it for. I wanted it primarily for lush backing vocals/harmonies, and maybe some effects just for the fun of it. Turns out it's only good for the cliche effects. This pedal is advertised as "not needing a guitar plugged into it", but what it should say is, "doesn't have the option to plug a guitar into it". I thought it was a smart pedal that could gauge by your voice which key it should be in, but I soon found out that scenario is impossible and the device has to find out from somewhere, be it a guitar, keyboard, or in this case...dialing it in for each song. Oh yeah, the other problem (besides having to bend over and manually dial in a new key for each song) is that 99% of the songs in the world change keys during the song.If you want to be cute and get "radio voice" or add "reverb" which you can do for a lot less money (or just ask the sound guy to add it), or "loop", which you should just by the Loop pedal for, then by all means, but this pedal is trying to do too many things. It needs more button and pedal options, but Boss limited themselves attempting to conform to the two pedal line, when they should have gone for more of a 5 pedal multi-effect unit, with guitar by-pass for harmony purposes. I'm selling this within 15 minutes of owning it, and getting a TC Helicon G-XT.
