5.0 out of 5 stars Zeitgeist of 60s Cuba
This is an extraordinary soundtrack to Sixties Havana from an extraordinary band. The CD is beautifully packaged with great sleeve notes. Unfortunately, the CD is missing "Hermosa Havana", the best Zafiros track in my opinion, but this is still an outstanding disc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Frankie Valli and the Four Latinos
That is what we call this album in my house.

The word 'Bossa' is misleading. My title is much more descriptive.

Some really nice slow, ballad type tunes. Nice 50's vibe. Great music to have in the background when you are working.

These guys are amazing. The music -- a fusion of salsa, bossa nova, doo-wop, R&B and more -- is great, and surprisingly sophisticated. The vocals are fantastic -- and the tenor (soprano?) of Ignacio Elejalde blows away Frankie Lymon or any other doo-wop legend you can name.

awesome cd. Brought back lots of memories. Sometimes we forget how rich our culture really is. I use to listen to them a lot back home in my native Cuba. I even know all of the songs by heart. It is a pity that Hermosa Havana is not included, but is excellent anyway. By the way, saw the movie about them in Miami a while back.

who would have thought that a strange beast called 'cuban doo-wop' could possibly be this good? but it is! i defy anyone with a sense of hearing not to be overwhelmed by the infectious rhythms and fabulous harmonies of this woefully neglected group.

I always loved musics like Bossa Nova, Doo Wop, and similars, but the first time I heard a song by Los Zafiros, my devotion to them began to grow rapidly. The more that I heard the more that I like. The voice of Ignacio Elejalde It's, for me, greater than Tony Williams of The Platters. A great gift for people who love 60's sounds like Bossa Nova, Doo Wop, and, specially any cuban sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seen the movie Havana Mi Amor?, November 22, 2000
This review is from: Bossa Cubana (Audio CD)
Saw the film Havana Mi Amor at the Mill Valley Film Festival (great movie about romance Havana style, a TV repairman, and soap operas imagined and real) which features many songs by los Zafiros, and while it took me forever to figure out how to buy many of the songs from the film (on this CD), it has finally happened. So many sweet moments, and great to dance to!

After hearing three songs from "Bossa Cubana" on the World Cafe with David Dye, I rushed to the nearest music store and bought it. Their voices are deeply infectious. I haven't stopped dancing and swaying to their rhythmns since I heard them! A must buy for anyone who enjoys latin music.

5.0 out of 5 stars BLUE MADNESS, June 13, 2001

THIS IS THE VERY BEST OF THE ZAFIROS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN TITLED THAT! IT'S NOT JUST THE SONGS BUT THE MASTERING AND QUALITY OF THE SOUND THAT MAKES THIS THE BEST CD (TO DATE) OF THE ZAFIROS, AS FAR AS THE MUSIC WHAT CAN BE SAID...IT'S FABULOUS..IT'S FRANKIE LYMON MEETS THE PLATTERS BUT BETTER...THE ZAFIROS WERE FOR VOICES AND ONE GUITAR AND ALL FOUR SINGERS WERE LEAD SINGERS..NOT JUST ONE SINGER AND THE OTHERS STRICTLY BACKING..THEY EACH HAD DIFFERENT STYLES AND INTERPRETED THE SONGS BEAUTIFULLY...THIS CD CAPTURES ALL OF THE MAGIC...FROM THE STEAMY BALLADS TO THE UP-TEMPO DANCEABLES THEY WILL ALL BECOME FAVORITES..JUST LISTEN..THE DOO-WOP INFLUENCE IS TREMENDOUS CONSIDERING THIS GROUP WAS BORN AFTER THE EMBARGO WHEN NOTHING AMERICAN WAS WELCOMED IN CUBA..IT'S TOO BAD THEY NEVER MADE IT TO THE STATES. THERE'S ALSO SOME INTERESTING ANECDOTES IN THE LINER... A MUST!
