A Surprisingly Great CD!, December 21, 2002
This review is from: Bossa Cuca Nova: Revisited Classics (Audio CD)
This is really my Dad's CD, but I burned a copy of it for myself. I'm 16, but I really enjoy this CD (call me crazy!) We first heard it when my Godmother played it on one of our annual sojourns to the magnificent Bass Lake. It's a really fun collection of jazzy hits. This is a really good CD! I love it! Even though I can't understand any of the words, I still love it. My favorite song is Track 2, "Vai De Vez". This CD was really hard for us to track down, because we kept seeing CD's that we thought were this, but turned out not to be. This is a must-have for any CD collection. It's awesome, even for the younger generation, like mine. Enjoy!!!

An Okay CD - but get the new one instead., August 28, 2001
This review is from: Bossa Cuca Nova: Revisited Classics (Audio CD)
I purchased this a couple years ago, and at the time it was a pretty nice CD. The beats were fresh - BossaCucaNova was in there with the rest of the whole slew of groups looking to create a new sound in the Brazilian music/Bossa Nova scene. They went the rout of revisited Classics and made this release. When I first got it, it was terrific. Like another reviewer said, great for the beach, and very fun. But it isn't timeless music. This is very much out of date now. So many new sounds have come out of the label Bossa Cuca Nova is on (Six Degrees) that this sound seems, to put it mildly, a bit cheesy and out of date. Acts like Suba, Bebel Gilberto, Andrea Marquee, Zuco 103 and many many others in the new movement like Smoke City/Da Lata and etc. have put a stamp on some of the new sounds. On this disc, the best song today is the one song done with one of the guitarist's fathers, Roberto Menescoal - O Barquinho. Otherwise, you may be a bit disappointed by the songs and re-makes of the classics. You get a BRazilian feel from Revisited Classics, but not much originality or consistency. That said - you should look at their latest album - Brasilidade. It is FAR better than this one. Cris Delanno is featured in vocals, and Bossa Cuca Nova learned a lesson and involved Roberto Menescoal more. More experience led to a far greater album. The difference he makes is extraoridinary. The sound on the new CD is similar to O Barquihno - and yes, the new CD is GREAT beach music and summer tunes. So I'd go with the newest CD and only check this one out if you're very curious.

Great Re-hash of the orginals., June 11, 2005
This review is from: Bossa Cuca Nova: Revisited Classics (Audio CD)
BossaCucaNova is a great new DJ sound obviously aimed at the new generations of Brazilian music fans who are yerning for more than "just" the gold era "MPB" classics they grew up on. This album symbolizes that fusion of DJ sounds and personal new takes on old classics. The only downside to this album is that purists will cringe at it and new listeners who haven't heard the orginals may in some cases lose something in the lack of musical translation. But after all, I think I have 3 favorite MPB takes of Berimbau, and I welcome a this new twist! Another good exmple of this would be "A twist of Jobim" albeit a different sound than this, but it's easily considered a great album.
