Dance Music for Beatniks,
By
This review is from: Bossa Per Due (Audio CD)
First, a few words of explanation. Please note that "Bossa Per Due" and "Jet Sounds" are essentially the same album. "Bossa" is the American release, "Jet Sounds" the European. Secondly, you are probably here because you heard one of these tracks on a TV commercial. "Bossa Per Due" (the song) was used in an Acura commercial about a year ago, and "Jet Sounds" (the song) is currently used in the Joe Boxer commercial where the African-American fellow is dancing in his underwear. As for the music itself, Conte fits into an obscure but trendy genre that combines 60s lounge and bossa nova music with modern dance/techno elements. The result is a weird (but often enjoyable) hybrid of retro and ultra-contemporary. Whether you like it or not, you've probably never heard anything quite like it.

This album runs smooth with the bossa sounds from nicola conte his american release from esl records, a sure sign of a good record is that label for sure. For those unfamilliar, this album is bossa instrumental, making nice atmosphere music for the dinner party, A caution, for jazz lovers or bossa lovers. Do not expect heavy chilled out dub but instead a lively beat and more for Bebel Gilberto fans than Tosca fans. A good sound enjoyed by the casual listener, but bossa/jazz fans will love it. 3.5 stars. 4 stars for genre lovers.

Good Disc,

I reckon this is the American version of the disc. His album in Europe is called "Jet Sounds", but Bossa Per Deu is probably the song most noticed in the United States, thanks to that wretched Acura commercial which doesn't do the song or Nicola Conte's music justice. It is a great, high spirited martini madness kind of CD. I think the style Conte uses is "Bossa Italia", heh heh. Definitely a Brazilian influence in the music, but with a 60's, Italian feel to it. Very interesting and very enjoying CD. For the record, if you like or have heard one Easy Tempo, released by the ESL label, that is what this is similar too, only a bit more modern. Nice beach music. I like the tracks 2, 4, 6, 9 and a few others that are noteworthy. Get it, add to your international collection and enjoy for years!

Don't let music snobs influence your personal taste. Like all art, there is no right or wrong, just what you like and I love this album. I can listen to it again and again without getting bored. Unlike the American music scene which all sounds the same to me (wha, wha, wha ...), this is different and fun.

in the mood,

i got this CD yesterday and a thought came to mind that i think i should share with everyone. this cd puts my in the mind of the breezy, heady, tropical locales without actually having to deal with the heat, humidity and the rough edges. it's slick, cool, and refreshing. having grown up in the tropics this puts me in the mood for that carefree time and place in my life. That's good, in fact, that's great--trust me on that. You'll recognize the title track from a Honda commercial--I hate that. but what can you do. it's still a great tune and you'll be bopping to it long after the memory of the stupid car commercial fades. most song s sound like they were done in the late 50's or 60's but that's the appeal--remember carefree, breezy, heady... mix up some piña coladas and take a vacation, why don't ya.

What a great CD. After hearing the song from the commercial-and what better advertising than that is- I decided I wanted to know a little bit more about this artist. The music is modern/techo in feel, but with a strong jazz base. Its a great collection of more bubbly, exotic, and a yet soothing sounds. This album makes a great compliment to any collection, who want something different and fresh, and or great background music to those you love and or a group of party dwellers.

I have long been a fan of Nicola Conte---yes some of us knew about him before he sold out to Madison Avenue. This is a fun album that evokes images of swanky parties, cigarette holders, martinis and summer nights by the pool. Great music for a dinner party, for driving or just for hanging out.

Very diffrent but fun sound,
This review is from: Bossa Per Due (Audio CD)
This might not be the most common form of dance music. The Italian Nicola Conte mixes 60's bossa nova with dance and the sound is quite unique. Here you'll find alot of diffrent inspirations like "The Samba" "Arabesque" "Bossa per due" "Missione a bombay" and "Jazz pour datine". Bossa per due which is exactly the same album as Jet sounds is a diffrent album with alot of catchy retro sounds. It reminds me a bit of Dimitri from Paris, so if you liked him check Nicola Conte. This album is fun and the music kind of reminds me of music from some glamourous bar from a James Bond movie. Enjoy!

this is one of the best cds i've bought in the past few months. That's saying alot especially considering the fact that i by tons of cds a month. the first song, arabesque is really good. is sortof reminds me f caravan in a way. it's got good percussion and there's just something about it. Bossa Per Due is one of my favorite tracks on the c. the bossa nova sound is realy good and the singer is cool too. dossier omega isnt one of my favorites but its still good. then il cherchio rosso is cool, the flute almost sounds like a steel drum and its got great percussion. fuoco fatuo is real jazzy. Forma 2000 is a faster more energetic track also very good. It's actually an organ being played and it sounds pretty cool. I'd talk about every song but that would be more than 1000 words so i can't write that much. missione a bombay is cool, it doesn't just have percussion like most of it, its got a good beat. jazz pour dadine is real good to, it's pretty jazzy and it has a good horn section. like i said i cant explain everything so tracks 9-12 and the bonus track are all really good and you need to buy this cd, one of the best. It really takes you to another place and it's just very good music.

Nicola Conte - Bossa Per Due,
This review is from: Bossa Per Due (Audio CD)
Nicola Conte channels the spirit of 60s Italian jazz and spy movie soundtracks into his debut album, Bossa Per Due, and the results are amazingly fun. The tracks here exude such happiness that it's impossible not to have a smile on your face while listening to this album. There's plenty here to liven up dinner gatherings or cocktail parties. "Bossa Per Due" makes you want to go for a drive down a sunny Mediterranean coast. "Fuoco Fatuo" should be played when you want to evoke that smoky, underground jazz club feel. And "La Coda Del Diavolo" is a must for any wild and crazy swingers in the party. And along with the joyousness, there's quite a bit of accomplished songwriting and musicianship too. This is jazz at its perkiest.
