5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Elegant, February 20, 2000

Among the late Charlie Byrd's many albums and CD's, I still find this one the most satisfying. No orchestra, no over-production--just great material and the guitarist confidently trading solos with Ken Peplowski on tenor sax or clarinet. Byrd's distinctive, harmonically-inventive readings of these Jobim and Bonfa classics should appeal especially to amateur musicians (like myself) seeking to explore the potential of the nylon-string guitar. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charlie Byrd Revisited, August 27, 2002

I haven't received this CD yet, but I have the paper-thin albums of these renditions. I have been a Charlie Byrd fan for many years, and will continue to be.

If you love latin rhythms, if you love the sound of a sweet and mellow guitar, you are in for a treat. Every song is a thing of beauty before Charlie finishes it.

If you are already a fan, this is a wonderful way to preserve those beautiful songs, and his beautiful renditions. I am so glad I can revisit my favorite guitarist!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply....beautiful, June 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bossa Nova Years (Audio CD)
Bossa nova standards where every note from every musician
counts with no orchestra to detract from the simple
beauty of each. You will be familiar with most of these songs,
esp. those written by Jobim, from Byrd's other albums but, to your surprise in many cases, you may find yourself preferring these renditions.
