5.0 out of 5 stars Tried the rest, the N80 is the best!
I am a framer who used to use all Senco. Then I switched to Paslode, but they were to high maintenance and we had to much down time on the job. Hitachi was next because some of the guys had them. I tossed them within 6 months, they just couldn't hold up around the jobsite. Their magazines kept bending and caused the nails to get jammed in the magazine. I've been...

3.0 out of 5 stars Annoying problems
I have had this nailer for several years now. It was the first nailer I bought. It has an annoying tendency to shoot double nails if you hold it against the workpiece and pull the trigger. It also tends to have the trigger valve hang open, leaking air so fast that you must stop nailing. Occasionally it will stop leaking if the air line is disconnected and then...

I've been using Stanley-Bostitch framers and staplers since 1996 and have never had any problems whatsoever. They are the lightest and most powerful tools that I have ever used. Something can be said about using tools everyday for four years and not ever having to have them serviced. Buy Bostitch and you will never be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars I tried to beat it silly and it refused to give up., April 8, 2000

At this price this is a great tool. Everone brags about senco, hithachi ,makita. These tools do the exact same thing. I will say that this instrument at least in my neck of the woods is a top seller and favorite amongst all construction people. It is well built it may not be the lightest but so what at around 10 pounds most tough guys can hold it. High quality, very trouble free , easy to find nails . At this price you can buy one of its competitors nail magazines which by the way are the most frequently damaged part. Im telling you its tough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Brute of a Tool, September 1, 2001

The Bostitch N80SB is a great tool. It is heavier than some of it's competitors, but is a basically maintenance free tool if it is oiled properly. The tool drives a variety of fasteners in all types of wood with ease. This tool has been in Bostitch's stable for a long time and is being discontinued soon. But believe me, it's not because this tool has any downfalls. As for any double-firing. Many of these instances are human error. If a person is trying to positive place a nail with a nailer with a contact trip trigger, more than likely when you depress the contact trip and then pull the trigger the tool will fire twice because of the recoil and the user not removing their finger from the trigger fast enough. If you are using a nailer for positive placement of the nail, always use a nailer with a sequintial trip trigger. This will eliminate double firing. However, with a sequintial trip trigger, the user will not be able to hold the trigger in the fire position and bump fire the tool by bumping the contact trip against the work surface. Take your pick of what trigger best works for you.

The Bostich N80 SB was the first pneumatic nailer I purchased. I have tried some other brands and there is not a better tool available anywhere! Most do not even come close to this one. This nailer functions flawlessly whether hot or cold, wet or dry, clean or dirty. It functions well within a wide range of pressures and setting depth is easy to adjust

I have framed hundreds of feet of walls, nailed down hundreds of sheets of plywood and countless rafters, headers, etc. The only time it malfuctioned in any way was when I used some old dirty, rusty nails that were kicking around in my van to finish out the day. Even with those garbage nails, I had only two or three misfires due to the nails sticking in the magazine.

For a period of about a week, one of my employees didn't know he should oil the thing and still it kept on plugging faithfully. (I do not recommend using the tool without oil).

If you are looking for a dependable, rugged, inexpensive framing nailer, this one simply can't be beat. You will not regret buying it.

I am a framing contractor in the northeast. I have been using Bostitch N80 nail guns for the last 15 years. From 90 degree temps in the summer to zero degrees in the winter, they always work. I have a total of 22 Bostitch guns, some being as old as 15 years. The framing nailers I get at least 5 years of day after day service. The most common break down is either lack of oil or breakage from the guns being dropped. (they have to really be dropped from high up onto a hard surface such as a concrete slab) All of the production framers in this area use Bostitch, the best of the best. Thank you Stanley for making a product that enables us contractors to make our living with a minimum amount of headaches.

USE BOSTITCH TOOLS EXCLUSIVELY, NO DOWN TIME, NO MAINTENANCE. MY GUYS USE THEM FOR HAMMERS, DROP THEM FROM SCAFFOLDING, RARELY OIL THEM. THEY STILL KEEP ON GOING. HOW COULD THEY GET ANY BETTER. TWO N80'S, 2 YEARS OF ABUSE, STILL MAKING MY LIVING FOR ME. THANKS STANLEY.

I have had this nailer for several years now. It was the first nailer I bought. It has an annoying tendency to shoot double nails if you hold it against the workpiece and pull the trigger. It also tends to have the trigger valve hang open, leaking air so fast that you must stop nailing. Occasionally it will stop leaking if the air line is disconnected and then reconnected. I also have the BT-50 brad tacker and the 1/4" stapler. The stapler has also had problems with the trigger valve (it appears to be the same valve in all of the nailers). I religiously oil the nailers daily before use, so I do not think lack of oiling is the cause of the problem. I have not been able to find replacements valves at any of the local "Home Centers", although o-ring kits seem to be available.

I purchased this nailer about 2 years ago for my father, Ive used many times, until Igot used to it I did change the trigger. The bump trigger is great once you've practiced with this thing. Its very light and can drive almost anything. But, only use stanley nails. I used another brand from the local lumber yard and they did not fit and almost broke the nailer.

I would rocommend this nailer for any task dealing with construction or remodel. However Id recommend a coil framing nailer for sheeting, stick nailers dont hold enough nails for sheeting work.

This review is from: Bostitch N80SB-1 Framing Stick Nailer (Tools & Home Improvement)
Hello, I have used Bostitch nail and staple guns for over 15 years and have found them to be very good. The newer ones are far better than the earlier ones though. I guess that would be because of the newness. As this would be the case with anything. Anyhow, I have a number of Bostitch air nailers and wouldn't give them up for another brand.

Thanks Bostitch for the years of service,

Steve Schroeder Schroeder Construction 970-323-0559

This review is from: Bostitch N80SB-1 Framing Stick Nailer (Tools & Home Improvement)
I just purchased the Bostitch N80SB to use in my ongoing home remodeling projects. My only experience to date has been with the finishing nailer variety. This thing is extremely powerful and should be used with caution. If not handled properly, it could inflict serious harm! I studded out my pole building style workshop/garage in preparation for adding insulation. The gun did everything it was designed to do. It was fairly easy to handle in spite of its size and weight. It does deliver the nail (sometimes twice if you're not careful!). Double fires can be a problem but I have to believe that such is the case with most nailers of this type. My suggestions for anyone that has never used a nailer of this type is to make sure that you have enough compressor to feed the beast and practice, practice, practice.
