DIY Homeowner's dream, but nails hard to buy.,
By Magnus Opus (Washing DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bostitch N88RH Heavy Duty Round Head Nailer (Tools & Home Improvement)
PROS:
- This is a great and reliable nailer. I'm using it now to frame in a basement. Not a single jam. - Haven't had it long enough to comment on durability, but I've put it down for 2 months, picked it up, and started nailing with not even a pause. - The spiked teeth make toenailing a breeze. CONS: - Plastic collated nails in smaller quantities at 21 deg. for RH nailers are not available. That means you're stuck buying 4000 qty cases for your first job, no matter how small, and it makes having several nail sizes and types on hand an expensive proposition. I have been to 7 different hardware stores (big and small) in the DC metro area and can't find a single box of 21 deg plastic collated nails smaller than 4000 unit cases. - Wear eye protection! Those plastic pieces from the collated nails can be dangerous as they come flying out from all angles. - Had some minor trouble nailing treated lumber using a smaller compressor. Make sure your compressor is well-matched and up to the task with this nailer.

AFTER MY HAND-ME-DOWN OLD SENCO NAILER (20#+ LOADED) DIED, I INVESTIGATED THE NEWER FRAMING GUNS, ORDERED THE BOSTICH N88RH AND AM COMPLETELY CHARMED WITH IT. OUT OF THE BOX, LOADED, OILED AND THEN PUT UP A 16X20' SHED WITH ONLY ONE JAM WHEN MY COMPRESSOR GOT UNPLUGGED... IT IS LIGHT, EASY TO ADJUST & USE AND THIS "HANDY OLD HEN" WILL HAVE IT CLOSE BY FOR ALL MY FUTURE PROJECTS.... PS: THE NAILS ARE NOT HARD TO FIND, AS HOME DEPOT STOCKS 2 LENGTHS OF 21 DEGREE RH NAIL STRIPS....

Bostitch N88RH-1 Round Head Framing Nailer,

This is the third framing nailer I have owned and the best. Its high power and light weight make it a pleasure to use. The push button depth control for setting nails is great and there are no tools or line pressure adjustments needed. It set the nails from flush to deeply buried - even in some very hard old pine I tested it on. Mine came with both the sequential trip and contact triggers. I like the sequential trip trigger as it allows for more accurate nail placement without the risk of double firing. Bostitch says it takes only 21 degree nails, however my local supplier only had 20 degree nails and they worked perfectly. I would highly recommend this nail gun.

The family had a number of projects to build so we made an investment in the N88RH. Now three of us are completely hooked on this marvelous nailer. In the begining I was suprised at it's size, but the lightness of the unit makes it quite easy to use. We all had carpentry experience, however none of us had ever used an air nailer. The learning curve was very short. Projects can go up very fast.

Awesome and reliable nailer...,

I replaced a Porter-Cable RH framing nailer I had used for several years with this Bostitch. The P-C had been in the shop twice and had some occassional jamming problems... not so with this Bostitch. The P-C has been relegated to a 'back-up' position. I have used this Bostitch model and have had trouble free operation for over a year. I would guess I have put more than 20-30,000 3" and 3-1/2" nails through this gun without a snag. I'm not sure why reviewers keep complaining about unavailibility of nails. You can find them on Amazon (for all brands, sizes and angles) if not in your local 'big box' stores in lots of 500 or 4000 count. Perhaps, its the inconvience of shipping/waiting which can be a hassle if framing is your profession (it's not mine, but I do quite a bit of framing). Having no box store nearby, I just keep an eye on the inventory and order more when I start to get low.
There may be a better RH framing nailer out there on the market, but I'd be hard-pressed to figure out how. All nailers nail... power and reputation, balance and weight, reliability and trouble-free use are the determining factors as far as I'm concerned, and the Bostitch N88RH has them all! Note: Amazon's third-party vendor Grizzly has a nice carry bag that 'just fits' this nailer for around $22 (including the s/h). "Grizzly #H3401 Nail Gun Carrying Bag". It has hand-carrying handles and also a shoulder strap. Great way to protect your tool. Fast delivery, too!

Awesome tool,

This is my first nailer. I built an addition on the house, and this quickly became my most-used and favorite tool. I'm having a little trouble with handling a hammer these days, and the nailer was a real blessing. I know it is one of the lightest available, but I still found it to be pretty heavy when hanging on a ladder & trying to hold some wood straight with one hand while positioning the nailer with the other. I don't have easy access to Bostitch nails, so I bought nails for a Duofast. Not a single jam to date, using 3 1/4", 2 1/4 smooth & 2 1/2 ring. I can't imagine going back to swinging a hammer again!

I bought this nail gun about three months ago to use on a garden shed I am building. I probably didn't need the nail gun just to build the shed, but I thought it might come in handy if I did more projects later. I went through most of three boxes of nails with this thing and it never once misfired. the power is more than adequate and it has made the job much faster. When framing walls with a hammer, everything moves as you swing but with a gun it goes together much better. I give 5 stars because I am completely satisfied with this nail gun.

I will make this quick. I researched and read many reviews of nailers. I used the N88RH-1 and really like it. Light wieght and easy to handle. This nailer is more than others in its class, but it is well worth the money.

This shoots 16D nails like it was nothing. If I had to choose one gun to have on the site I'd choose this one. It is powerful, dependable, and a great value for the money, especially with the free palm nailer.
