We first purchased these staplers for a busy academic library for our patrons' use. The first year they were terrific. This past year, every single stapler broke by the third day of use. The loading device has a small plastic nub that is critical for the proper functioning of the stapler. That nub broke in every single stapler. We duck-taped the loader and got more mileage from each stapler that way but the whole situation was very difficult. It is an example of a great product that went wrong through a cheapened manufacturing process. This might be ok for your desk, but for public or heavy duty use, avoid it.

Before breaking, this stapler worked fairly well and I never had it jam. However, when you use the stapler, you'll notice than when you push down on the handle to staple some pages, the stapler will frequently rock forward towards you. A bit strange, but it still functions. However, after about 5 months of use, my stapler snapped in two right above the metal staple-folding insert on the base of the stapler. Now, of course, the stapler is completely worthless.

Very disappointing. I'd avoid this stapler; it just doesn't hold up well under moderate use.

The Stanley-Bostitch Heavy Duty Stapler PHD-60 is easy on the hands, can staples lots of paper and do it smoothly. I am very happy with it - use mine all the time.

I bought this stapler after the one I had became harder to use and the staples were becoming mangled. I had to 'double staple' because the first staple bent out of shape.

This stapler works great. Whether I'm stapling 2 sheets or 30 sheets. Probably staples more than that but for my needs it works perfectly.

Just got it. Stapled a half dozen 50 page documents without a problem. It was the cheapest one I could find.

Whenever I'm writing a review, I usually read the other reviews to see if there's something I'm missing about a product. In this case, the other reviews are telling me that this stapler may not last and that it has a tendency towards jamming. Its mainly-plastic construction, including some of the critical parts, is concerning and I fear they would break under heavy use. The stapler works smoothly and is easy to load, though the spring on mine looked irregularly compressed, almost tangled. If you're looking for a stapler that will staple a lot of sheets, and aren't worried about durability this might be the stapler for you, otherwise I'd keep looking.

If you do decide to buy this, the replacement staples are model #SB35PHD-1M, which I had to look up on the internet. Interestingly, they are cheaper at "Staples" (makes sense that staples would be cheaper at a store named Staples, ha ha) than Amazon.. currently $6.89/1000 there, vs. $9.88 on Amazon. Quite a price difference!

Sorry I can't give this a better review, but this stapler seems flimsy to me. I'd suggest you shop around.

I found this stapler to be very awkward to work with. The mechanism for loading the staples does not tend to remain latched when stapling. The loading mechanism does not seem very sturdy.

It also took a while to get used stapling because of the place where you place the paper for stapling and the fact that you have to hold onto the stapler with both hands to keep it sturdy.

I will use this, and it will come in handy from time to time, but it is definitely for home use. If you used this at work the frustration wouldn't be worth it.

I stapled 43 pages of Xerox 24 pound Premium all purpose paper and that seems about the max it can reach for a secure hold.

So the process is awkward, but end result is as it should be.

Also, the stapler does not hold a lot of staples.

I bought this stapler because my old Swingline finally jammed so bad I couldn't revive it. I wanted a stapler that I couldn't kill for my home office. Since I'm often stapling several sheets together this seemed like a good choice. So far I'm very happy with it.

It's a good size and has a very sturdy feel to it. I got these Stanley Bostitch Premium Quality Heavy Duty Staples for PHD-60 Stapler, 5,000 Count Box (SB35PHD-5M) to go along with it and have tried stapling about 15 pages without any problem. I've posted some photos on this site so you can see the size. It's definitely bigger than my old one but I like the idea of being able to staple more than just a couple pages. It loads from the back which I've been able to do without incident. I posted some photos of it open so you can see how it loads. I think this stapler will be with me for a long, long time.
