Having cut my staple removing teeth (pun intended) on the old-fashioned claw-style staple remover (BAZIC Claw Style Staples Remover, 2 Per Pack), I graduated to the "ultimate" staple remover (Swingline Ultimate Staple Remover, Platinum (S7038121)). Just when I thought I had reached the pinnacle of staple removing ease (after all, the word "ultimate" does mean "the best achievable or imaginable of its kind," doesn't it?), my world was rocked. ROCKED.
I had not even begun to imagine the possibilities. I didn't even know what I was missing until I felt the sweet caress of the Stanley Bostich Professional Magnetic Staple Remover in my hand. Contoured to fit my hand, just like my Venus razor, with a comfort grip so that the staple removing calluses on my sore hands could heal at last...how have I ever removed a staple any other way? What sort of life of misery and drudgery have I been living up to this point?Read more ›
As a former agent of an unnamed government agency, my sole objective was to remove staples each and every day. I had hundreds of stapes, if not thousands of staples that needed removal and this was the tool for the job. Not only did this staple remover slip staples off paper easier than a two-hook bra off a prom queen, but it had a magnetic attraction that kept the staples from getting lost onto the floor where they become one with the carpet for eternity.
It wasn't long before I realized the true potential of the magnetic attraction between the staple remover and the spent staples. With the power to collect staples at ease, I soon amassed a large staple ball roughly the size of a small seedless watermelon. Despite my pride in the creation of such a masterpiece, the office maid removed my staple ball; possibly with a staple ball remover. Thankfully I was able to quickly build a new staple ball and store it for a later date when it will ultimately be melted down and cast into a staple remover. Irony? Perhaps.
As amazing as this staple remover is, it does have one major flaw: others will be drawn to its uncanny ability and power. People WILL try to steal it from you. Perhaps while you're in the restroom, at break, in the kitchen pouring a mug of coffee and/or getting a doughnut supposedly from just the day before, co-workers(or even your own boss) will be attempting to infiltrate your cubicle to claim the staple remover for their own. Once you wield this staple remover, you must forever carry it on your person.

I bought two of these - one for use at work and one for use at home. On both of them, the magnet is too weak to have any perceptible effect. The staple slides off the tool, and I must pick it up from my desktop several inches from where the staple was removed. I would prefer a magnet strong enough to hold the staple conveniently on the tool after the staple is removed. I suspect that may have been the intent of the designer, but on the two units that I bought, it doesn't work.
The magnet is handy for picking up the staples after they have been removed. The staples do not stick to the staple remover during the removal process, but you can hold the bottom of the staple remover against the removed staples on your desktop, and it picks them up, so you can then more easily remove those staples from the bottom of the staple remover - it's just easier than picking the staples up from the desktop using your fingers. This is not the purpose that I expected, but in practice it is helpful. I remain very enthusiastic about using the staple remover when three or more pages are stapled together - something I do frequently.

Best staple remover I have ever had. Better than the claw versions. Just push it under the staple on the flat top side an it pops off. Read morePublished 13 days ago by David L.
