2.0 out of 5 stars Problems with these speakers. Stopped working
I got these speakers with a Gateway system about 8 years ago years ago, and I liked them okay. Then about 4 yrs ago I found a pair of bigger speakers for only $10 at an estate sale, and they had better sound, so I began using them instead, and put the BA system in my closet. Well, this week, one of my 'newer' speakers crapped out.

So I went back and my BA...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Little Speakers!, May 4, 2001

I originally purchased these speakers... about 1 year ago. They were on sale.... Being an avid Boston Acoustics fan, I was not disappointed with the sound of these little giants. The little subwoofer (with 4" driver) really pounds out some bass! This setup could easily out perform most home stereo systems. Hook up to anything with a 1/8" stereo line or headphone output (or other with adapter). Below I will list pros and cons:

PROS:

-Big sound from small speakers

-Very realistic sounds, from highest highs to rumbling bass

-Volume control on speaker (some MM systems have a wired remote)

-Easy connection with color-labeled wires

-At this price, A [good deal]!

CONS:

-Factory set length between L&R speakers

-Not "portable use" friendly (like some CSW models with battery)

-Large power supply "brick" which is external from speakers

HINT:

To get the best sound with the subwoofer, place on the floor, near a wall or the corner of the room. This will accentuate the output and leave you wondering how such a small speaker can deliver so much bass. Just don't expect TOO much from the subwoofer, a 4" driver can only do so much. If you still have those [inexpensive] speakers that came with your computer, do yourself a favor and upgrade to some REAL speakers. Trust me, one listen and you will become a Boston Acoustics fan for life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Pretty Well, August 7, 2002
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers (Personal Computers)
These work pretty well. For our house, I have crafted together an excellent stereo system comprised of these speakers, and a pordable MP3-CD player. This allows mw to put together literally hours of music (converted from our cd collection) on each disk and create "party soundtracks", which differ by disk depending on the age and tastes of guests we are entertaining. Guests always comment on what a great sounding system we have, and are shocked when I tell them the whole package (mp3 player and these speakers) cost so little! ! !

I recently purchased these little monsters and I am extremely pleased with their performance. I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone who wants great sound for gaming, MP3's or just about any application without spending to much money.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE!!!, January 12, 2006
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers (Personal Computers)
I got these speakers the other day... one word WOWWWW!!!...considering their size, The BA 635 is like a mini Mike Tyson that has more than enough rumble & punch to "KO" the competition. Friends often come over thinking the music they hear is from my Harman Home theatre amp but are often surprised and amused at the sound coming from these babies. Its such a trip listening to your favourite music wondering at the same time how sound just magically fills the room with life!! I listened to Harman/Kardon's soundsticks (very pretty), JBL's invaders, a whole variety of colorful Creative and Altec Lansing speakers...Hands down, those were all trash. I Tell you, Boston has created a beast of a sound system with these. In terms of pure performance take my word for it, (except for the bose multimedia speakers@5times the price) NOTHING else comes close to these!!!

In a nutshell-

I use the a Harmon/Kardon AVR4550 at home. But these little babies I take with me on my travels to compliment my ipod. Balance is superb, Bass is tight and solid. Sound can be a tad bright at times but with the Jazz I listen too, place them in a larger room, hide the sub in a pocket corner and be prepared to be amazed.

INCREDIBLY STUNNING!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy, August 1, 2004
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers (Personal Computers)
I've had these speakers for FIVE years and have not had any problems whatsoever. They are small, but deliver incredibly clear sound. They can get surprisingly loud and the subwoofer is quite good. I would recommond these speakers to anyone.

Awesome sound these little babies shoot. No noticeable distortion when cranked at full volume, and the subwoofer is pretty powerful, specially at low and medium ranges. Great crystal-clear sound. These + a laptop/CD-MP3 player and a good CD/MP3 collection can be used as a great small-party sound system (i.e. hotel rooms or small activities where music is a must). Don't let the tiny size fool you, they sound even better than some bigger 4-speaker systems that I've seen.

With this product, Boston Acoustics delivers... again and as usual.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, but could be better, June 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers (Personal Computers)
I got these speakers with my new computer 3 years ago. I have never had any problems with them. However, in the higer volumes or deep bass, the speakers crackle. Slso, the subwofer could be stronger. But otherwise, This is a good set of speakers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing for the price, September 16, 2001

This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers (Personal Computers)
Hi, I had to write about these speakers. I have had the BA635 speakers for 3years on my gateway. Back then they were much more money. These speakers have very good high end and low end sound. They sound great for mp3's. The reason I gave these speakers four stars is because the base, is not the best in the world, but for people who want good quality speakers for music at a good price should by the BA635

5.0 out of 5 stars 12 years of exemplary service, June 23, 2009

I've used these speakers ever since my dad got a certain Gateway computer in 1997, and when the computer got old, a new computer was made, and the speakers kept. And so it went, through at least 2 or 3 PC overhauls, the speakers remained. They have the best sound for the size and the money I have ever seen. I have not ever had a single complaint with them, and I still use them heavily today. When my dad bought a 4.1 Creative setup for his computer, it still didn't compare. To this day, I have not heard a better PC speaker system with comparable specs at the same price. I only wish they were still widely available. I'd get my dad a set for his birthday.

After 12 years, they show no signs of wear, which is good, because I'm not sure what I will do when they eventually die.

If you can get your hands on a set of these nowadays, do it, because it'll be well worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Going strong for over 12 years..., February 7, 2009
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA635 3-Piece Multimedia Computer Speakers (Personal Computers)
I originally bought these speakers in 1997 and they still work perfectly. I am not an audiophile, but these speakers are definitely some of the best I've used. When turned up to just over half volume, the sound is clear and undistorted. Possibly the best feature of this system is the ability to customize the amount of bass produced by the subwoofer. Instead of having to use special software to tweak this, I just change it by simply turning a dial on the subwoofer unit.

This is a fairly basic set. If you are extremely picky about the sound quality, you might want an upgrade. But for the casual listener with a variety of music (bollywood, jazz, techno, dance, classical), this is the unit to get.
