Great quality and install, sound slightly thin, March 12, 2009
I am using these speakers as side surround speakers in a 5.1 setup. Their design is wonderful -- you can mount them in almost any position, at a variety of angles, and in corners. The install involves screwing a bracket to the wall. The bracket has metal bushings. You hang the speaker on the bracket and run two large bolts through the front of the speaker into the bracket. Installing them by myself was a piece of cake. The design of the bracket allows you to rough in/prestage the wiring and then install the speaker very securely.
Sound quality is typical Boston -- very precise and without distortion, even at high volumes. The only thing I am a little disappointed about is that the sound is a little thin (as opposed to full) -- you can only really tell if you run a speaker test where you here the side speakers by themselves. In practice, I haven't noticed this problem when watching movies, etc. I would not use these for rear or front channels where you want some more body, but in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup, these are great for the side channels. If you have a really big room, you might want something more substantial. Otherwise, these are a great value and they're Boston, so they should last a lifetime.
