Got this sub to replace a Cambridge Soundworks BassCube 12S. I was afraid that moving from a 12" to a 10" sub might cause a loss of some bass, but was I wrong. This thing really adds some thump to movie soundtracks, and it's smaller and less obtrusive than the 12" it replaces. What I like is that it's downward firing. A lot of subs today are side-firing, which just seems like a recipe for disaster with kids and pets. It's ported in addition, which adds to the overall bass response.

Finally, the finish is nice. I got the black as the cherry was out of stock. My old sub was a straight black laminate, but this has the nice wood grain look to it.

Overall, I've very happy with this unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend, June 28, 2009

I bought this to replace the unpowered bose sub that came with the Acoustimass 5 Series III. I was never crazy about the Bose sub to begin with, though thought the sats were pretty good. I've had this Bose setup along with their VCS-10 center in a 5.1 arrangement.

The Bose sub is the only sub I have to compare it to as I've never had another but the Sub10 was great this weekend. I played some blues, salsa music, and some DVDs and am very happy with it. I did play around with the crossover and it's now set at 150hz in my A/V receiver. I know that it's typical to set at 80 or 100 but my sats are so small that I eventually just set the crossover to 150 and it seems to be fine. The room it's in would probably be considered mid-sized. I didn't want a huge sub even with the dynamic range gains from a bigger sub -- I figured this would be pretty good and I was right. I have the sub's amp set at mid-level. The most I had it up was maybe 60-65% max. That was enough for my application. I think for the money that this sub is a steal and it breathed new life into my old Bose speaker system that I've had for 10 years. I'm looking forward to testing it further with some more challenging DVDs when I get the chance.

Are you going to set off your neighbors car alarm.....no. Are you going to fill a room with some low tones, definitely. I paired up an older set of Boston bookshelf speakers with some in wall rears and it fills our space very well. If you have other Boston Accoustics equipment and aren't looking to break the bank, this would make a great addition. I've always been a fan of Boston's high and mid range tweeters for their clarity and crispness and the sub addition completes the package.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain nice!!!!!!!!!, April 3, 2011
This review is from: Boston Acoustics CSSUB10B Classic Series Powered Subwoofer (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this from Crutchfield ( got my UPS 10% discount with them ) and was really surprised. I had the Bose lifestyle 12 way back from 2001. I bought a new receiver ( 625 watts total ) and kept the Bose speakers. I placed it in the corner of the room and it really sounds great. If I play it for over an hour with heavy bass music , it will vibrate one of my speakers off the end table. Something Bose sub-woofer could not do. My room is 17 by 20 and it is plenty for this room. It is a really great purchase for the money. Strongly recommended!!!!!! Also it is very easy to hookup. If your receiver is up to date all you will need is a RCA plug in to plug in to the sub-woofer plug in your receiver and then to the sub-woofer and you are all set. It is pretty much idiot proof.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clean, hard hitting bass, April 24, 2011

Purchased this sub to compliment Polk Audio Monitors and Onkyo receiver. Overall very impressed with this sub. Firstly, build quality is very good with good overall controls and connections. Bass is clean, tight and has impact both in home theater use and music. Shook the house and living room at about 60% volume. Tried different kinds of music, with smooth bass response with all music. Gladiator and Bourne sound fantastic with this sub. This is my first Boston Acoustics purchase and glad I chose this sub.

I have this on Onkyo TX NR609 receiver in a 5.1 configuration. The sound is awesome. This has a LFE input (low frequency effects) so your receiver can take care of the crossover settings. The cabinet is well made and looks great, classy.

I purchased this as a second subwoofer to suppliment a Bose Acoustimass subwoofer with a Denon AVR-2311CI receiever. I can say it all in a simple formula. So far, the Boston Acoustics CSSUB10B + Monster cable subwoofer cable = a very happy listener.
