Nice addition to iMac - but requires special connections to work, June 4, 2011
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA735 Digital Speakers Sub-woofer (Electronics)
I have had these digital speakers in a box gathering dust for years, since I bought them at a yardsale in like new condition. I knew they required a digital input, and when I bought my first Mac, figured I'd just plug them in. Wrong. The iMac uses a special headphone/digital toslink mini combination output. I needed to buy a few specialized connections and adapters from monoprice.com to get the rig working. They arrived today, I hooked it all up, and the sound is impressive. I have to use the satellite volume and horrible little "treble" knob to control the sound, and reach around to the back of the sub to control the bass levels. That said, once set-up and running, the sound was worth it. Still working on the sub placement to get the right tonal balance, but very pleased nonetheless. I went with 4 stars overall, being a bit hard on them for the connections, and maybe a bit generous on the sound but I was rating them as computer speakers, not hi-fidelity components.
In case it helps someone else, here is what I bought to make them work with the iMac:
2948 Optical Toslink to Coaxial (RCA) Digital Audio Converter (this is a powered unit, converting optical to coax digital signal)
7240 RCA Plug to 3.5mm Mono Jack Adaptor - Gold Plated (a few cents for this; takes converter output and makes it work with the BA input cable)
1556 3ft Toslink to Mini M/M 5.0mm OD Molded Cable (runs from the iMac combo port to the input on the converter)
Mine look more "putty" color than the white shown in the pics someone has posted for this item. Also, mine came with these short forked stands for the satellites.

Speakers BA 735, June 18, 2011
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA735 Digital Speakers Sub-woofer (Electronics)
Bought these last week at a garage sale for $2. What a great sound for such a unit. I plug them into my Grace Internet Radio, my Verizon Droid X and my wife's I Pod with any problems what so ever. My Droid X is my radio of choice when at the cottage. When I was at the garage sale I told the guy I wanted to hear them. He said we can plug them but won't hear anything. I said, "Want to bet? Bet me." I pulled out my Droid X and turned on Radio Margaritaville and turned it up all the way. He said, "Turn it down the baby is sleeping." After trying a few stations he told his wife that he didn't realize what you could do with those speakers and wanted to keep them. I handed him the $2 packed them and took off. Does anyone know how much these retailed for brand new?

Great PC Speakers and Subwoofer, July 29, 2011
This review is from: Boston Acoustics BA735 Digital Speakers Sub-woofer (Electronics)
The speakers connect to a standard speaker/microphone jack in a PC/laptop. The speakers work great for listening to music as it is loud and has a crisp sound. These speakers are a great bargain as compared to Bose speakers.
