This is a great system of speakers. Well-built, good looking, durable, good connections, but MOST importantly - great sound. The subwoofer is a MONSTER of good bass! I am extremely pleased with this surround sound system, better than any I have ever had. The only reason I am giving this product 4 stars, rather than 5 is that the overall depth of sound is not quite as sharp as I expected. The rear channels are too average for a 5 star rating. The center and front speakers are really good. This is an outstanding, overall diverse and powerful set of speakers for anything from watching James Bond to a Pavarotti concert. Highly recommended.

Very Good Speakers,

I'm no audiophile but I bought this speaker system along with a Denon 788 receiver to replace a Sony surround soud system that came with my house. For a speaker set these speaker have really good sound. The larger center and front speakers have two woofers and one tweeter. The rear have a woofer and tweeter. These sound much better than the Sony system with its one way speakers. The subwoofer has very good bass and has yet to distort.
The only complaint than I have is that out of the box there is a plastic tab that in order to remove you have to remove the speaker grill. While doing this I manage to break off one of the posts that hold the grill to the speaker. I called Boston Acoustics and they did send a replacement, no questions asked. The grills are very fragile so use caution.

Subwoofer the weakest link in this system,
This review is from: Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS130 5.1-Channel Surround Speaker System (Black) (Electronics)
If I had paid more than I did, 300 euros, I would've been sorely disappointed.
The satellites do sound great, not as warm as my old Infinity bookshelves, but very full. They are a little flat, not dynamic and they don't fill my little 6 X 15 ft. room, but still, their range is good and pure. However! The subwoofer, no matter what settings I've used on my very nice Marantz SR5002 AVR, and no matter where I put the ugly beast, doesn't hold up. I'm going to put it on the market and look for another sub. It's boomy, and while it :may: fill in the lost lower frequencies, it's hit and miss. Plus, did I say it's boomy? Sorry, but for me, "house shaking" does not equal a good sub. Better heard and not felt, is my feeling. I feel this thing, but just hear "whoomp whoomp whoomp." Is that music, or a jack-hammer?! My old subs, a passive set by Cambridge Soundworks did a great job for their 15-year life. I heard all the rich sounds, but never got jolted mid-song by a misplaced "bra-ooomp!!" Another :little: problem is the transformer in the sub hums. I had to take it out and re-screw it on the outside of the panal on the sub; no biggie if you've got a soldering iron, but we shouldn'be be hearing the sub humming during quieter parts of movies, right? My opinion? If you can get this for under 300, take it, keep the sats, and try and sell the sub for a few bucks to a starving student.

These speakers are top of the line. Superior in every way. These are
not every day surround sound theater speakers. They are heavily made and excellent quality. The sound is terrific. These are upper end speakers and with an excellent receiver should give you a wonderful listening experience for music or your surround theater. I am very pleased by them, could not ask for better speakers.

I bought this system to enhance a new 46" Sony flat screen tv and Sony Home Theater Receiver. I have not been disappointed. This Boston Acoustic system has incredible bass, clear sound from all 5 speakers and just overall brings my living room to life no matter if I am watching sports on tv, movies on my dvd player or music from my home theater receiver. I highly recommend this set of speakers!

I Installed the Boston MCS-130 system two weeks ago after purchase from audioextreme at amazon.com .
The 200watt downfiring subwoofer gives the sense the bass is coming from all around,as it should, shakes my entire entertainment room. speakers provide a very diverse and clear range of sound without distortion. I have been trying different music and BD movies to challenge the system and it has performed amazingly well. The sub woofer is not ugly at all, the LCR speakers and surrounds are well designed and fit my decor. I like the rubberized feal, gives the sense of solid construction and very easy to grip when mounting. recessed connectors are more difficult than most but we are not talking science here, just takes an extra minute or two per speaker, Big deal. Also, a set of high quality speaker cables and subwoofer connect cable come with the system, no need to buy new. heavy gauge with marked sheathing, subwoofer is gold plated connector. In conclusion, for 500 dollars I now have a professional sounding speaker system that has dropped the jaws of every one who has heard it. Very clean with impressive bass. you can even change the color of the grilles to match decor if you need. My PS3 and BD and HDTV are finall sounding the way they were meant, I have the MCS130 connected to a Sony STR DG-520 reciever for a truely kickin 5.1 speaker system for a very reasonable sum of money. this is a fantastic system for 5 or 6 hundred. You will not in any way be sorry. If you have limited space and don't want to spend alot, this system will be everything you want it to be

Really Good (Not Great) Sound. But They're So Ugly!!!,

I compared these speakers in my apartment to the Harman Kardon HKTS-18's. These won in the sound quality area, but lost bad in the looks area. My gosh are these speakers, especially the subwoofer, ugly! I think they have the multi-color grill options just to take your eye away from the fact that they are coated in some sort of rubber material, have cheap in-box table-top mounting, and, again, to hide the fact that the subwoofer looks like a Borg spaceship.
The front speakers have a surprisingly full sound and they actually put out strong, punchy midrange and smooth highs. The rear surrounds are basically the same speaker as the front speakers, minus one woofer. They are well-suited for surround speakers and they are equally as smooth sounding, just not as loud (which is good in my mind). The subwoofer's sound quality is pretty good and matches well with the overall package, but I think that because the subwoofer's vent faces downward towards the floor like the driver, you end up losing a bit of oomph, especially if you have carpet. The Harman Kardon set-up's subwoofer was far better and its vent pointed backwards instead of down. If these speakers weren't so bloody ugly and cheap looking, I think I'd keep them. Though I'm sure there is some benefit, they are all coated in this rubber material that looks like black primer paint on a muscle car. Matte paint is good, but not when it's rubber. Because they clash bad with my glossy TV, they're probably going to be sent back. I think I'm going to give Cambridge Soundworks or Mirage a try and hope that they match or beat the sound quality of this set-up. If you don't care about looks, get these over the HK's, even if you pay more.

Bought this to use as part of a home theater setup.
Works great! It will make the house shake if you want it to. The satellites are larger than many, and I think they provide excellent sound.

Amazing System,
This review is from: Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS130 System Mist Speakers (Electronics)
I recently purchased this speaker system for my family room to use with my Onkyo TXSR706 Silver . It looks and sounds amazing. I have tower speakers in my theater room and get just as much enjoyment out of this small system. I think it is the best possible speaker system for under $800.00.
