5.0 out of 5 stars simply unbelievable for a small HT system with BIG sound!, July 5, 2008

This review is from: Boston Acoustics MCS 130 Home Theater Speaker System 5 compact s (Electronics)
I purchased this speaker system for use with an Onkyo 606 in my bedroom setup. My main HT setup is in the living room and uses a very large Mirage HT setup powered by an Outlaw 7 channel 200 wpc amp and a monstrous 400 wpc Mirage sub. I shopped around and found them at Circuit City for substantially less than anywhere on the net or elsewhere. The price at CC for these Boston speakers led me to believe that they would be adequate for my bedroom setup. Brought them home and put in Batman Begins in TrueHD (my favorite HD demo disc - an HD-DVD disc but more "impressive" sonically to me than any blu-ray disc I own) and was frankly astounded by the sound. I do not use the word "astounded" often when describing A/V gear. The 200 watt sub is deep, tight and clean. The L/C/R speakers are larger than the rears, but they are clear and produce a sound that would easily fill a much larger room. The rears produce a very noticeable effects soundfield. The thing that impressed me about this system is the way they handle the distribution of the sound between the sub and the sats. The transition is smooth as silk without a hint of "bump" or hole in the integration of the speakers. Sound reproduction is clean and accurate at both low and thunderous volume levels. I have heard a lot of sub/sat systems over the years, and this one simply stands head and shoulders above any to the others I have heard. At the price CC was offering these at the time (@370.00), you simply cannot go wrong. I went back and bought another set for a close friend the next day.

One note - the sub actually requires you to plug the power cord into a wall socket. I tried to use a power center (Belkin PF30) using an amp plug on the Belkin, and the sub simply would not turn on. When I checked the manual, it specifically recommends that the sub be plugged directly into a wall socket.

In my opinion, you simply cannot go wrong with this system even at the list price!
