From the Manufacturer

A New Vision in Great Sound

Owners are rightly dazzled by the picture quality of today's flat-panel TVs, but few have kind words for the sound of their TV's built-in speakers. Enter the Boston Acoustics VS Series, a line of floorstanding, bookshelf, and on-wall loudspeakers that produces stunningly realistic, richly detailed surround sound whether you're watching movies or listening to music. Dispelling all notions of the typical "rectangular box" loudspeaker, VS loudspeakers feature elegant cabinets finished with black piano lacquer, along with high-gloss furniture-grade panels on both ends in your choice of high-gloss cherry, maple, black, or ebony lacquer. More significantly for audiophiles, the speakers are made of the highest quality materials, with high-frequency-molded MDF exteriors that yield to wave-like curved surfaces. The curved surfaces are designed to reduce internal standing waves and significantly reduce any panel or cabinet resonances, creating a warm, rich sound. And to further the goal of inertness, the cabinets also incorporate substantial internal bracing, providing an ideal environment for high-performance, resonance-free sound reproduction.

All VS Series speakers are voice matched, helping you create a custom surround sound system.
This particular speaker--the VS 210BM subwoofer--is designed to fill out the low-frequency notes of a movie soundtrack, making it a crucial addition to your surround sound system. The VS 210BM is equipped with a 10-inch front-firing woofer made of Organic Composite Cone Material (OCCM), along with a matching OCCM passive radiator and a proprietary 500-watt Class D amplifier. As a result, no bass note will go unfelt, whether from assorted cinematic cataclysms or the percussion section of a symphony orchestra. The subwoofer also employs BassTrac circuitry to ensure tight, distortion-free bass at all output levels. And unlike many other subwoofers, it's easy to adjust the VS 210BM's bass output, with accessible top-mounted volume, crossover, phase, and power controls. Other details include gold-plated, line-level stereo inputs; an LFE input; a pass-thru connector; an elegant black lacquer piano finish cabinet; and high-gloss furniture-grade bird's-eye maple end panels. The VS 210BM carries a five-year warranty.

Expand Your VS Loudspeaker System

The VS Series is engineered to provide rich, encompassing surround sound in a variety of listening environments. Each VS speaker--the line includes the compact VS 240 bookshelf speaker, the VS 260 bookshelf speaker, the VS 336 floorstanding speaker, and the VS 224 on-wall speaker--is voice matched with the other speakers in the VS Series, so you can mix and match them depending on your audio preferences, the layout of your listening room, and the size of your budget. The VS 336 speakers, for instance, make great standalone stereo speakers but also excel as the front speakers in a multichannel audio system. The VS 240 and VS 260 models, by contrast, aren't quite as full bodied as the VS 336, but still sound terrific compared to most bookshelf models. As a result, you can use the VS 240 or VS 260 models as stereo speakers, front speakers, or rear surround speakers without missing a beat. To complete your surround sound lineup, the VS Series offers a three-way center channel speaker (the VS 325c) and a 500-watt powered subwoofer (the VPS 210).
  • The VS 240 is the VS Series' most compact and affordable bookshelf speaker, yet still offers exceptional dynamic range and sensitivity. The speaker--which measures 5-7/8 by 9-7/16 by 6-3/8 inches (W x H x D)--boasts a 4-1/2-inch OCCM woofer and a 1-inch SWB tweeter, helping it create a frequency range of 70 Hz to 30 kHz. The VS 240 also employs MagnaGuard video shielding to protect against video interference, along with gold-plated five-way binding posts to ensure a pure signal transfer. The speaker is suitable for a wide range of applications: as a stereo speaker, as a surround in a multichannel home theater, or as a front speaker when paired with the VS 325C. Plus, the versatile speaker is small enough to sit comfortably on virtually any shelf or tabletop.
  • The VS 260 is still small enough to go virtually anywhere, yet is powerful enough to fill all but the largest rooms with robust, richly detailed sound. The speaker is somewhat larger than the VS 240 at 9 by 14-1/2 by 10-1/4 inches (W x H x D), and offers a larger 6-1/2-inch OCCM full-range transducer for tighter bass response (the SWB tweeter is 1 inch, as with the VS 240). When paired with the VPS 210 powered subwoofer, the speaker delivers an audio performance that's all but indistinguishable from that of a floorstanding system. This speaker is also suitable as a stereo speaker, a surround speaker, or a front speaker.
  • The VS 224 sports a slightly different design than the VS 240 and VS 260 speakers, with a chassis that can be wall mounted above, below, or to the side of flat-panel TVs. The speaker also offers a different driver configuration than the bookshelf models, with dual 4-1/2-inch OCCM woofers and a 1-inch SWB tweeter. Integrated with premium crossover components, the VS 224 delivers an audio performance that's an ideal complement to your TV's video performance, with a high-gloss, high-style look that adds an elegant touch to your decor. As with all VS speakers, the VS 224 is magnetically shielded and offers five-way binding post speaker connections.
  • The VS 336 offers the power and sensitivity to faithfully reproduce any source material under any listening conditions, with three fast 6-1/2-inch OCCM woofers providing serious bass punch, a 1-inch SWB tweeter for extended high-frequency response, and a 4-1/2-inch OCCM midrange driver creating exceptionally smooth transitions between the two. The VS 336 is the top-of-the-line model in the VS Series, and because of its full driver array, is generally used as a stereo speaker in a two-channel system or a front speaker in a home theater setup. The speaker also offers bi-amp, bi-wire capability, letting you create a more powerful sound system.
  • The VS 325c is engineered to crisply reproduce a movie's dialogue track, so you can hear each sigh loud and clear. The speaker's powerful three-way design features dual high-performance 5-1/4-inch OCCM woofers, a 3-inch OCCM midrange, and a 1-inch SWB tweeter, ensuring that a movie's dialogue is rendered clearly and coherently while also bringing music and center-screen sound effects to life. Don't let the VS 325c's refined good looks fool you, however, as it's one of the hardest working loudspeakers in show business. As with the other speakers in the VS Series, the VS 325c boasts high-gloss furniture-grade end panels in your choice of several finishes.
  • The VS 210 completes your VS Series surround system by reproducing the bass audio channel with power and precision. With a 10-inch front-firing OCCM woofer, a matching OCCM passive radiator, and a proprietary 500-watt Class D amplifier, no bass note will go unfelt, whether from assorted cinematic cataclysms or the percussion section of a symphony orchestra. Other features include accessible top-mounted volume, crossover, phase, and power controls; an elegant black lacquer piano finish cabinet; multiple gold-plated inputs, including line-level stereo inputs, an LFE input, and a pass-through connector; and BassTrac circuitry that produces tight, distortion-free bass at all output levels. The VS 210 subwoofer is the perfect complement to your VS Series front, rear, and center-channel speakers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boston Acoustics VS Series Subwoofer - VPS 210, December 29, 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boston Acoustics VS Series VPS210BB Powered Subwoofer (Black/Black) (Electronics)
After setting up Boston's VS 336 towers, the last thing you think you need is a subwoofer... but when I hooked this sub up with them, WOW. While I typically prefer a sub that focuses on sub-bass to lay down notes you feel but can't really hear, those subs are great for music and often horrible for home theater use, where you may want a wider range of audible frequency, more commonly associated with movie effects than musical performances. With music, I'm almost always happy cutting the crossover down to 60Hz, sometimes lower. With movies and their audio material spread out across multiple channels, you 'll often feel there's a gap in the audio when using such a low x/o point. That's why you want a sub that can perform at more than one task: Does it THUMP? Or does it SING? I look for flexibility between both tasks. Being Boston's flagship home subwoofer, my expectations were high, and I have to say this sub meets them quite well.

Between it having two 10" woofers moving air and a decently-sized enclosure on 500 watts of amplification, this thing is capable of blowing your hair back, both at the lower end of the bass spectrum and upper range where it can really help to blend with low-mid freq's coming from your full-range speakers and 'fill-out' the sound of a system. This is especially true with full-range effects in surround channel audio when using smaller satellite speakers. A neatly hidden top-mounted control panel allows quick and easy adjustments if needed, and connections on the bottom of the enclosure keep this sub woofer practical for almost any placement. The clean and tidy appearance would fit in just about anywhere in your house.

I'd give the sub 4.5 stars if I could. It's a great subwoofer... It's furniture-grade attractive, fairly compact, and sounds great. Quite the little performer... But for $1699, I'd like it to make my dinner too! That said, you get what you pay for (Especially from Boston Acoustic!), and this could quite possibly be the last sub you ever need to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Sub rocks, great job by Boston Acoustics!, January 16, 2012

I really like this sub and I got it on sale. The design of it is very nice, I like the curved sides and the piano black finish is awesome! It really does put out some serious bass and it is very tight. Like others have said, let it break it for a few days. It's built very solid and is very heavy. I like the fact that it has a volume control knob right on the top. Their is also a LED on the top that turns blue when it is in use. My room is 19x19 with 10 foot ceilings. It really rocks in this size room and it rattles all the stuff hanging on my walls. I like how this Boston Acoustics line has the curves, very artistic looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and Powerful Sub, January 8, 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boston Acoustics VS Series VPS210BB Powered Subwoofer (Black/Black) (Electronics)
I bought this sub to be added to a home surround sound entertainment system. This is a very powerful sub. You can feel trembles in the floor at low volume which really adds to the movie experience. The piano finish is very attractive. I bought this as a refurb which I normally will not do on electronics. However, I figured there are so few parts in a sub that there is less likelihood of a problem. This sub is pricey but this is a prime example of getting what you pay for. It will perform to your expectations or higher. Buy with confidence.
