4.0 out of 5 stars Boston Acoustics VS Series Subwoofer - VPS 210, December 29, 2011

After setting up Boston's VS 336 towers, the last thing you think you need is a subwoofer... but when I hooked this sub up with them, WOW. While I typically prefer a sub that focuses on sub-bass to lay down notes you feel but can't really hear, those subs are great for music and often horrible for home theater use, where you may want a wider range of audible frequency, more commonly associated with movie effects than musical performances. With music, I'm almost always happy cutting the crossover down to 60Hz, sometimes lower. With movies and their audio material spread out across multiple channels, you 'll often feel there's a gap in the audio when using such a low x/o point. That's why you want a sub that can perform at more than one task: Does it THUMP? Or does it SING? I look for flexibility between both tasks. Being Boston's flagship home subwoofer, my expectations were high, and I have to say this sub meets them quite well.

Between it having two 10" woofers moving air and a decently-sized enclosure on 500 watts of amplification, this thing is capable of blowing your hair back, both at the lower end of the bass spectrum and upper range where it can really help to blend with low-mid freq's coming from your full-range speakers and 'fill-out' the sound of a system. This is especially true with full-range effects in surround channel audio when using smaller satellite speakers. A neatly hidden top-mounted control panel allows quick and easy adjustments if needed, and connections on the bottom of the enclosure keep this sub woofer practical for almost any placement. The clean and tidy appearance would fit in just about anywhere in your house.

I'd give the sub 4.5 stars if I could. It's a great subwoofer... It's furniture-grade attractive, fairly compact, and sounds great. Quite the little performer... But for $1699, I'd like it to make my dinner too! That said, you get what you pay for (Especially from Boston Acoustic!), and this could quite possibly be the last sub you ever need to buy.

I really like this sub and I got it on sale. The design of it is very nice, I like the curved sides and the piano black finish is awesome! It really does put out some serious bass and it is very tight. Like others have said, let it break it for a few days. It's built very solid and is very heavy. I like the fact that it has a volume control knob right on the top. Their is also a LED on the top that turns blue when it is in use. My room is 19x19 with 10 foot ceilings. It really rocks in this size room and it rattles all the stuff hanging on my walls. I like how this Boston Acoustics line has the curves, very artistic looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and Powerful Sub, January 8, 2012

I bought this sub to be added to a home surround sound entertainment system. This is a very powerful sub. You can feel trembles in the floor at low volume which really adds to the movie experience. The piano finish is very attractive. I bought this as a refurb which I normally will not do on electronics. However, I figured there are so few parts in a sub that there is less likelihood of a problem. This sub is pricey but this is a prime example of getting what you pay for. It will perform to your expectations or higher. Buy with confidence.

Simply the best better than all the rest. This thing has super tight bass :)But you have to let it break in for 40 hours or so to get smooth bass. And it looks as good as it sounds

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Subwoofer! Super Price!, January 1, 2012

This is easily the best subwoofer that I have ever owned. The bass is tight and clean, not boomy. The price that I paid ($349) was less than 33% of the original retail price. Vann's is great to work with. I originally paid $399 for the unit, but they put it on sale a week later for $349. When I emailed them about an adjustment on the price, they complied without hesitation.

I am very happy with it.

I had always been on the lookout for a good sub to cover the lower notes for my music, but just couldn't justify the $$$. Until, that is, I found this sub on a deal I couldn't refuse!

I'm into dance music, so quite demanding on fast, tight and deep bass to make those beats come alive. Quite simply, this sub transformed my system. The first test with Morcheeba smacked a big grin on my face! Hybrid and Lamb sounded simply amazing. No boominess, just clean beats with a hugely powerful impact: exactly what I was after.

Finally, the lacquer is of exceptional quality and the curvy enclosure sure is easy on the eye.

I'm nowhere near being able to afford a $1700 sub. But if you find this on a good deal, don't hesitate -- the lack of user reviews on this gem is shocking.
