A city come alive,
This review is from: Boston Foot Notes: A Walking Guide (Paperback)
I thought I knew Boston. I'd lived there years ago. I visit often. Then a wonderful pocket-sized guide fell into my hands and shined a new, absorbing light on Boston. Crammed with anecdotes, from waltzing parties to murder, Boston Foot Notes delivers a city far more colorful than what we've read about in history books. Whimsical ink drawings are an added delight.
Whether you're an armchair traveler, a beater of city pavements or a 10th generation Bostonian, I think you'll find Boston Foot Notes is a great book. Warning: remember to stop reading when you cross the street. I'd be pancake now if a Bostonian Samaritan hadn't pulled me back from an onrushing car.

Marred by Prejudice,
This review is from: Boston Foot Notes: A Walking Guide (Revised Second Edition) (Paperback)
This walking guide to Boston, while generally informed and informative, was marred by its clear hostility to people of faith, of which there are many in Boston history. The authors are unable to discuss the Puritans or later religious leader without disparaging them expressly or with a snarky comment. Their ignorance and bias regarding the practices and beliefs of the Separatists, Puritans and other religious groups seriously undermined my trust in their other comments on Boston's past.
