Jane is as spunky as ever in the third Boston Jane Book,
By Jenna Nelson (Grass Valley CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boston Jane: The Claim (Hardcover)
Ok, this book was awsome once agian holm does it with Jane Peck, 17, with her spunk and wit and charm, as she fights for her belief's, Jane has outwitted a cutthroat ex- fiancee' William Baldt, she's handled bears, murderers and a very long ocean Voyage not to mention proved herself a survivor not only to the pioneers of the washinton territory but to herself, when three of her loved ones dies in short succession. but just as Jane begins to settle into her life. a old ghost has reappeared, Jane's bitter rival who's ALMOST as stubborn as Jane, Sally Biddle appears to ruin Jane's life, especially with the rakish sailor Jehu, the man Jane loves to death. not only this but Will's back threating Jane's Claim stake, as women are not allowed to own land, as Sally with her charm and charisma begins to push Jane out of her circle of trust, on a subplot, a well loved white man the territory dies suddenly leaving his daughter and chinook wife to fend for themselves as racial tensions begin to mount, as the white settlers try to take the "Half Breed Girl" from her Indian Mother. so readers will cheer Jane on as her spine gets some starch as she has the courage to put Sally back where she belongs and defend her beloved indian freinds from an all out race war agianst them... the only thing disappointing was that it needs another sequel or a proluge I give it five stars

Pretty good...,

Okay, the third book wasn't as exciting as the second or the first. But I thought the first was the best of the Boston Jane trilogy. The first was more original, spunky, funny, entertaining, fresh, and totally unpredictable. The others are kind of like add-ons; they didn't have much of a polt to the story. But I enjoyed reading the book and all the rest as well. All in all, the book was thrilling, romantic, and fun to read over and over again and had a sweet ending.

The Claim,
By A Customer
This review is from: Boston Jane: The Claim (Hardcover)
This 3rd book of the Boston Jane trilogy is great! Jane Peck is now settled into her life on the bay. Her house is almost finished and she has made friends with the new families that have arrived on the bay. Everything is going great until Sally Biddle arrives. Jane Peck who has survived a sea voyage, living in the wilderness, and has made friends with Indians, finds out that her worst fear is Sally Biddle, her old school mate. When Sally arrives at Shoalwater Bay, now a thriving settlement with more women and children, her main goal is to make Jane's life miserable. With her false charm she turns away some of Jane's friends - even Jehu, the man Jane loves. Then Jane finds out that her claim could be taken away. To top it off many of the new settlers want to put the Indians on reservations and get rid of them. As Jane struggles to convince the people that the Indians are friends and deserve to be treated as humans she realizes you have to work hard for what you believe in. You'll have to read the book to find out if Jane can be happy even with Sally around and if the Indians get pushed of their land or if they get to stay and work with the white people side by side. If you like historical fiction, adventures, or just good funny stories this is a really good book to read.

A pleasing installment.,
By MAB (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boston Jane: The Claim (Hardcover)
"Boston Jane: The Claim" is the third "Boston Jane" book in this series, and while it's not as adventurous as the other two, "Boston Jane: An Adventure" and "Boston Jane: Wilderness Days," it gives off a familiarity, with new problems. Even though Jane can handle grizzly bears and men, she shows weakness to her female peer that is definitely realistic. I was disappointed in her friends for befriending Sally so quickly, and discarding Jane hastily, but the ending is satisfactory. Hopefully, we won't have to wait two-years for a fourth installment, like we had to before. I good read - I recommend.

Boston Jane is Great!!!!,

This review is from: Boston Jane: The Claim (Hardcover)
This book is the third book in the Boston Jane trilogy (first is Boston Jane: An Adventure, second is Boston Jane: Wilderness Days) They are all really really good, but this one was great! Jane must face her finishing school nemesis, her ex-fiance who hates the Chinook Indians, and the threat of having her land claim taken away. At the end of the book, I was left hoping for more!!!! Read this book, but it might be easier to understand the characters if you read the other two books first. So get cracking, because you're missing out on something you don't want to miss!

Jane Peck is my most beloved fiction character! I read the first book when I was 9, now at 18, I found out that there were more books! I was so excited I couldn't wait. Here is how much I adore Boston Jane, at 6 pm I got the mail, 6:01 I was reading the book and did not set it down till 11 pm and then thought about it till 2 am! Jane is a completely believable young lady who is trying not to care what her old town people think of her, she really takes the town back from them in the end, knowing that they can't hurt her again the way they have! Jehu, naturally is a key element and the book would be lost without his strong guiding hand with Jane. All the characters are outstanding, even the ones you are meant to dislike you find interesting. Though the childhood mischief is missing in this book, Jane has adapted from what Mr. Russell calls, "Your first cup o' coffee." Jane is now settled in her frontier lifestyle, yet through all of the growing up, Jane still refuses to be a silent door mat, that is why I fell in love with these books! Every young lady wants not only to be heard, but to be free of the constant eyes that say we are to live our lives a particular way, Jane defies those eyes to be the daughter her loving father wanted her to be, and despite William doing his very best to change Jane into something she clearly is NOT, it's in the end that her true love, Jehu, who is the real man her father would wish her to be with, even if he is a sailor. :)

Good; not great.,

This review is from: Boston Jane: The Claim (Hardcover)
I really liked the first two Boston Jane book and was really looking forward to this one but it didn't live up to my expectations. It was pretty good; I didn't put it down until I was done reading it. But the plot was pretty predictable. Jane was pretty annoying - she really let Sally get to her even though 1) Sally wasn't very convincingly nasty and 2) If Jane can take care of criminals and bears, it seems pretty foolish for her not to be able to take care of a girl. I'm not saying the book wasn't good - it was. But I was expecting much better. |
