4.0 out of 5 stars Good info
It's a great book for a bit of hand-holding when you first get your first Boston. After a while you become adjusted to their needs and won't need the book so much. You'll have learned it. The book is well made and has no obvious physical defects. The information is solid, it was a genuine help when our Boston arrived. If you are buying a Boston or know someone who is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of bland info, but a lot of it nonetheless
The info given in this book varied between being very generic and very specific to the breed. I especially got use out of the health information for the breed, but the chapter about the history of Bostons was oddly colloquial and grammatically problematic. The info given in this book varied between being very generic and very specific to the breed. I especially got use out of the health information for the breed, but the chapter about the history of Bostons was oddly colloquial and grammatically problematic. For example, whole passages had exclamation points at the end of nearly every sentence. This might be nitpicking, but it seemed unprofessionally written, at least in parts.

- Pros: Good info on breed-specific health, breed standards, and, despite the points on grammar and style, included pretty comprehensive info on how the breed came about.

- Cons: Would have liked a lot more info on how to select a "good" puppy, temperament issues, any specific warnings of how to raise the dogs, etc.

All and all, I'd say it's a nice thing to have, but not an essential. I also got Boston Terriers For Dummies, which I liked a lot more, and found to be more of a comprehensive owner's manual.

The book is well made and has no obvious physical defects. The information is solid, it was a genuine help when our Boston arrived. If you are buying a Boston or know someone who is then get the book. At the price of the book compared to the price (and comfort) of the dog, it's cheap insurance.
FWIW, I am not a veterinarian and do not work in a vet's office. I am a dog owner and a poop-picker-upper

I'd buy it again (for another dog) I'd recommend it to a friend and would give it as a gift
