5.0 out of 5 stars Functional... and pretty darn cute.
I've had this little bird peeler for several months now, and use it at least 5 times each week. It's works perfectly, and has remained sharp and functional. It's comfortably bulky and fits nicely in my hand, unlike the simple metal peelers that kind of bite into my index finger when I peel something tough. It peels paper-thin, so there's not much waste. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great peeler but not for kids
My son is an avid cook and loves gadgets for Christmas. This is a fine strong peeler and sits nicely in the hand, however the beak end is so sharp it can be quite a hazard. I have been stabbed by the beak several times as i reach for the peeler in the drawer, and have to watch closely when the kids use it in case they too impale themselves during use. Not quite what I had...

It's comfortably bulky and fits nicely in my hand, unlike the simple metal peelers that kind of bite into my index finger when I peel something tough. It peels paper-thin, so there's not much waste. I get a lot of compliments during informal soirees and guests bicker over who gets to peel the carrots. I loaned it to a neighbor who finally returned it after about 2 weeks, confessing she didn't want to part with it. It's crazy how much people like when they see it, and I admit I've grown attached and will probably name it someday. I don't know what expectations I had when I impulsively puchased this vegetable peeler, but this thing has clearly exceeded them.

Not only is this gadget sturdy and sharp, but it just looks so cute sitting on the shelf in my kitchen. For once, an impulse buy that I don't regret.

This bird peeler is really cute and feels pretty good to hold. However, the beak has a stronger curve than typical peelers and the tip tends to hit the apple (or whatever you're peeling) so that the peeler suddenly catches. You have to keep adjusting the angle of the peeler to keep the end of the beak from touching the apple. Other than that, the peeler works fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Butta, August 1, 2011

It peels veggies like butta. What more can I say? I have read complaints about the tip being too pointy, but it is perfect for coring tomatoes and strawberries, as well as removing the eyes from potatoes. I am building a long suspect list of thieves in case this one leaves my kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best peeler ever! @_@, March 23, 2011
This review is from: Animal House Bird Peeler (Kitchen)
Okay so I'm used to the simple metal peelers because they work and they are cheap...I know at my parents' house they've had the same old metal peeler since I was born and it hasn't been sharpened once and still works well enough to get the job done. WELL, 1.5 yrs ago I got this as a gift from my sister and it was like heaven in a bird-shaped peeler.

SMOOTH - I could've sworn it shined and buffed my carrots with the very first swipe...we are talking about a seriously sharp blade!!
STURDY - I've dropped it a couple times (it's not slippery, i'm just clumsy), and also, it holds up just great soaking in soapy water or in the dishwasher! no rusting at all!
UNDER CONTROL - you don't have to break your arm forcing it to slice, neither does it take away deep chunks or graze the surface - it peels according to the pressure you exert on it - period!! I love this peeler.

The long beak does more than aesthetics - it shields your hand from the super sharp blade (but won't save you if you're being careless and get your fingers in the way ^_~). I saw another poster comment on the "sharp edge of the beak". Um, I've never been poked by the edge of the beak in my drawer, also, I believe the tip is rounded, maybe not to a great extent, but it certainly will not draw blood!

Some people may complain about how it's difficult to hold or something to that affect. This is simply lies and slander ;) 1. Do not stick your finger in the hole in the bottom. 2. There's no need to use your index finger as a "guide" on the "beak" portion. Simply grasp it as you would the handle of a bicycle or something. The bird "wings" are actually little silicone grip bumps and are very comfortable. By holding it naturally you will find an easy and comfortable grip!

Now listen up you chefs out there, yes, even the ones allowed to bring ridiculous looking things into a restaurant kitchen. BUY THIS PEELER. You will blaze through long carrots, macintosh apples, irregular-shaped potatoes, annoyingly oblong pears, delicate tomatoes, the leathery eggplant, and various other peelable objects in a FRACTION of the time you ever wasted peeling anything in your thus far "wasted time box" doing those totally-worth-it miniscule tasks as a chef. I still use a knife for some of the fancier peeling, but when I need to get things done in a hurry without sacrificing quality, I BRING OUT THE BIRD!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Peeler, November 23, 2010

Adds a funky touch to the blah job of peeling and does the job well. The pointed beak is great for digging out those potato eyes, you know the ones that watch you while you peel.
