5.0 out of 5 stars Great for lefties or righties (and cute, too)
My niece gave me these as a present because I own birds. And they're adorable scissors. But that's not why they're my favorite scissors -- ever.

I've never found a good-quality pair of scissors designed for lefties so I've spent decades with my thumb in the big circle and my fingers jammed through the small circle on right-handed scissors.

But...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very cute, cuts OK, seems cheap in some ways
This is a really cute pair of scissors that everyone admires. My only two gripes are that the spring that holds the handles open makes a "sproing" noise so the design seems cheap, and the scissors make a grating feeling as they close, so the blades seem cheap too. The blades are marked 'stainless steel'. Perhaps these scissors can be properly sharpened so they feel...

But these are ambidextrous. The hole doesn't slant so lefties or righties can put their fingers through it comfortably and then you just push down on the lever with your thumb. Even when I've had a project that involved a lot of cutting these didn't make my hand tired.

And did I mention that they're very cute, too?

1.0 out of 5 stars Cute Novelty, but don't cut paper, December 10, 2010

Seriously, I can't justify buying scissors, no matter how cute (and perfect for a bird lover), if they can't even cut newspaper cleanly. Spend money elsewhere.

I have used mine as my primary scissors for a year and have no problem with them. Still sharp too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Favorite, December 10, 2011
This review is from: Animal House Woodpecker Scissors (Kitchen)
I love my woodpecker scissors, and so does my family of 4, and the 3 other relatives I have given them to. Bought mine 3 years ago,and it's still going strong, but only use them on food...pizza, raw or cooked chicken, fresh veggies and herbs. Just got online to order 2 more...one for my daughter who's moved out and misses mine, and one for her gourmet friend who now wants one.
He's awfully cute too!

Looks good and fun but not very useful for office work or thin paper. Worked best on construction paper and they scare me a little when I have them open cuz they stay open and are very sharp.

Adorable. But terrible scissors :-(

They can't even cut through a "label maker" label.

The scissors I received were given as a gift. The recipient was honest enough to show me that they would not even cut a grocery receipt. When held up to a light it is obvious there is a gap between the blades. Too late to return as the packaging material was tossed.

3.0 out of 5 stars VERY cute, but somewhat imperfect..., July 13, 2009

I love these scissors - they work really nicely. The only thing is that the little tail feather flips to keep these spring-loaded scissors, but can be tricky to lock into place. If you're okay with keeping these scissors open in the drawer, or just taking the time to properly lock them closed, then buy them! They're super cute!

5.0 out of 5 stars Woodpecker Scisssors, January 27, 2009

These scissors are not only cute and unique, they do a super job of cutting!

Just too adorable to hide in a drawer, they hang under the kitchen cupboard where all can admire them and they are handy for use.
