3.0 out of 5 stars Good shoes but doesn't fit true to its size, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Bostonian Men's Tahoe Oxford (Shoes)
I liked the shoes and it looks very good with good material. The work is nicely done for the shoes. Good shoes for the money with a caveat.

The shoes doesn't fit true to its size and to me that's a defect. All of my shoes are 9M but I had to re-order 9.5M for this shoes. Please consider 0.5 size more than your normal shoe sizes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely shoe for a reasonable price, August 20, 2007

Averaging about $100, the Bostonian Tahoe is a moderately-priced shoe sporting a high-end look. The shoe itself is manufactured in India, yet has a sheen that reminds folks of Italy.

The debate about shoe sizing is interesting to me, because I see two folks say that they downsize by a half-size while another person says they upsize by the same measure. Since I fall into the latter category (wearing 9.5 Bostonians versus 10.0 normally), I guess I even up the mark. Given the variance, I'd suggest Bostonian sizing is pretty standard.

I bought these shoes because they fit well and looked nice - no great epiphany there. Whether they last for several years is yet an unknown question. But after being in business for more than 100 years (powered by the lovely waterfalls of the northern Boston suburbs), they seem to have a pretty good bead on what folks are looking for... and given the new manufacturing site in India, also what they're willing to pay.

Bostonian features "First Flex" construction, which suggests that the shoes need absolutely no break-in period. I'll admit that's a lie, as did the salesman from whom I bought these shoes (his took about 2-3 days to feel comfortable). But hey, do you believe every marketing slogan you read?

If you think they look good, and if they feel good on your feet, I'd say buy 'em. For the price and character, you're entering both a known quantity and a good product history.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reconsider V.Patel's review on size, December 13, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bostonian Men's Tahoe Oxford (Shoes)
Take heed, the shoes are not 0.5 size smaller. In fact it may be even .5 bigger. I just ordered and got 3 bostonian size 10w shoes and two of them met my expectations for size 10w. However, the 3rd - yes the Tahoe shoes was bigger by at least .5 inches. You can go on and take Patel's personal experience with 1 bostonian or take my warning that is based on 3 bostonian shoes.

Bottom line: if you're unsure, just order the size you usually order or go to a store and try them on first because all shoes can fit differently. Just don't expect your feet to be the same as Patel's or the bostonian tahoe to be smaller relative to other bostonians.

Btw, as for the quality of the shoe. It felt kinda thin in the uppers. It looks quite nice - shiny and polished but I already started seeing creases where the toes meet the rest of your feet straight out of the box. And like i said they seem to be a bit bigger, partly because the upper isn't padded like my other bostonians.
