Every City Should Have a DVD Like This,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Boston's Greatest Sports Stories, Beyond The Headlines (DVD)
When I popped this DVD into the player and began watching, my initial thought was "oh, boy, what did I waste my money on?" But I watched on, and it didn't take long for me to think that every major newspaper in every major city should consider producing a DVD like this for its collective sports history. This DVD was delightful. Please allow me a moment to tell you why I think so:First of all, I'm from New Hampshire and I've followed all these Boston teams for my whole 37 years. As a teen, I watched the sports report on all three major Boston stations at about 6:30 or so every night to keep up on the news and get a few different spins on a story. Although it starts out kinda "hokey," this DVD comes through with all of the big stories going back fifty years and in some cases, more. It brings back memories of the Bruins of the early 70's and Bobby Orr, the great sports championships of the Celtics, the quirky tales of the Patriots, and so many painful close calls from the Red Sox. It covers the tragedies of Lenny Bias and Reggie Lewis, Tony C., and the ball between Buckner's legs. It covers the 80 US Olympic Hockey team, the recent championships by the Patriots, and has a large section on "the Greatest Story of them All," the 2004 Red Sox comeback against the Yankees and World Series Victory against the Cardinals. And lots of little stuff that you might have forgotten about. Nancy Kerrigan's knee, the Ted Williams tribute at the '99 All Star Game, Harry Agganis. And it tells a ton of stories from the perspectives of the Boston Globe reporters -- and photographers -- who were there. I loaned this DVD to my parents recently, and my mother loved it. That's my MOM. They watched half of it one night and half of it the next. My wife really enjoyed it, too. It was nice because we could stop the DVD and talk about the event, what we remembered about it and where we were at the time. But, I digress; this really is an outstanding DVD of Boston Sports Memories, and I wish that every city could have such an offering for its sports fans.

Something for everyone,
This review is from: Boston's Greatest Sports Stories, Beyond The Headlines (DVD)
This video is unbelievable! I got 2 copies one for a gift and one for me and decided to check it out. Next thing I knew I had been watching for almost 2 1/2 hours! If you are true Boston sports fan this video has it all from the Sox to the Pats and Celtics, Bruins, BC, Marathon...the list goes on. The footage is great and the way the pictures are used is cool, you get a slightly different perspective of the events you know so well and the stories that are told by the writers who covered the events are very engaging. The best part is the section on the 2004 Red Sox section which includes somethings MLB did not have (read good LCS coverage, A-rod play & more great photos). Highly recommend this encyclopedia of Boston sports.

Boston's Greatest Sports Movie, Beyond The Headlines,
This review is from: Boston's Greatest Sports Stories, Beyond The Headlines (DVD)
This movie is the best 3 hours a Boston sports fan can spend in front of the DVD player. Told through the eyes of sports writers, it gives a resfreshingly honest perspective of some of the best moments in Boston sports history. The 2004 Sox World Series section is AWESOME!!! At 24 years old, I've missed out on a lot of the stories told by this video, so this was a great way to relive them. Buy it and watch it!
